posh frying pans - is it ever worht spending money on a posh non sticker?

Think if you're going to buy a posh frying pan, you should definitely do what someone else suggested and only use those silicone (? is that what it is?) coated spatulas so thta you don't scratch the surface.

I think you should treat yourself. It is part of your 'set of tools'. Is your dh handy around the house? If so, it strengthens your case - I bet he doesn't have the cheapest tools he could find.......you shouldn't either!

One final thing - posh frying pans are heavy/awkward to lift one handed, so take that into consideration if your style of cooking demands that.

....So it turns out that my pans are actually 'Stellar Hard Anodised' and NOT Meyer after all . Would definitely recommend them though!

We bought a set of Tefal red spot ones three years ago and the non-stick stuff is wearing off, worse on the frying pan.

Will never buy non-stick again.

Analon pans are NOT dishwasher safe - see here

very misleading but actually says hand wash under dishwasher safe - think it should be dishwasher safe?

I have 3 Analon saucepans, 2 frying pans and a roasting dish and all my other pans are now intruments for the baby to play with. They are AWESOME!
I do have to admit to not paying for them myself, they were a christmas present from my MIL (oh yes, I get kitchen equipment....) over about 3 years but I wouldn't be without them.

The ullimate test was that I made scrambled eggs one morning and got admitted to hospital that afternoon to have a CS, I didn't get home until 6 days later, of course DH hadn't washed up, and the egg just came straight out!

Got to add, thay have been going 5 years so far and no probs, but I only use silicon whisks and wooden spoons in them. I had a HUGE tantrum at a friend who put a metal whisk in one, it still has the scratches 3 years later.
I do handwash but as it only takes 2 mins it's not a big deal.

washing mine is not a problem either - I soak them if they are very messy - e.g made boeuf bourguignon last night and cooked it in the oven for a couple of hours in the pan, then soaked the pan overnight to loosen up the crusted on stuff. ( must wash it this morning)

My pans ARE dishwasher safe - I was just mistaken that they were Meyer ones!!! They are the same kind of coating but go in the dishwasher (honestly it said so on the box..and have been through our dishwasher countless times without damage)

in professional kitchens the best pans that all the chefs like to grab first are the old well-seasoned ones.

no point whatsoever in a non stick pan if you are cooking properly IMponcyO

the good old heavy cast iron frying pans are the best, ime. no non-stick coating or anything.

get the pan very very hot, then put in the oil, then put in the food. then turn the heat down low or even off.

i scramble eggs using this method and don't have sticking issues. since the pan is really hot, i keep whisking the egg in the pan and it cooks through in about 15 secs.

you can pick up a big one in woolies for a fiver or a tenner.

You are totally right, and I grew up in a farmhouse restaurant (well, not actually IN it,....) so I know what you mean about the chefs thing, however, if you are like me and randomly burn things/a lazy slattern who doesn't wash up often, then they are worth the money

tefal red spot is exceelent, although don't buy one for your dh as a present mine didn't talk to me for days when i did!!

I have one from sainsburys, cost mext to nothing and is great, no probs at all, even goes in dishwasher

Agree with florenceuk - been very pleased with my SKK pans. They are made of titanium which gives a much harder wearing non stick coating. You can even use metal implements in them (although I confess I don't actually do this very often).
