hire a rug doctor. they are about £20 (plus your shampoo) for a days hire and they work wonders!

We only have one place locally that hires out that kind of thing but I just thought it might be more economical in the long run to buy one - perhaps not. £20 is okay for hire.

unless you spend quite a bit of money then i dont think you will get one that does a decent enough job. Ive got 4 kids and beige carpet and the rug doctor worked wonders!

Thanks Angel - will give it a go. I think you are probably right!

probably need lots of stain remover though anyway if you are getting a puppy

I second the Rugdoctor-excellent machine and very cheap to hire.

For this reason and two dc's we bought a vax and in the long run we have had our moneys worth out of it!

Does this Rugdoctor work for flat, non-pile carpets? Ours are beige-gold & light pink. Clever mummy.

superloopy · 15/03/2007 21:17

Rug Doctor is just fab!!

I recommend it highly and I have beige carpets and a 2yo!! It's really easy to use too.

I think it would be ok for any type of carpets.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 15/03/2007 21:29

Thanks, Superloopy. I just checked out their website and there's a place very close to me, in fact at least a dozen. I'd never heard of this before.

It doesn't specifically say about non-pile carpets and the few photos on their website all have deep-pile ones, but there's a mention about upholstery, so i'm guessing it would work OK for non-pile too, as similar texture to upholstery? I'll give them a ring.

We hire ours from Homebase probably once a year and even clean the sofa's and curtains with it.They come up like new.
