OMg sod the kids I want a sanctuary office

indignatio · 12/03/2007 19:56

If you would really settle for a cheap one and have the space - we have a play area (swing slide rope and climbing bit from dunster house (via the net)) and an above ground level play house from garden buildings direct (again via the net). Total cost less than £600 - if you are interested in either let me know and I will post links.

exbury · 12/03/2007 19:58

I am getting an office - because my office (which I do paid, WOHM type work from) is now DD's bedroom.

BUT - it is a lot cheaper than these (less than most of the playhouses, in fact) and looks just as good (she says, hopefully - it arrives in 2 weeks - I can't wait [jumps up and down and squeals])

prufrock · 12/03/2007 20:09

These ones are even /link{http://www.playchildren.co.uk/better} ( ours is number 10181) they can design a playhouse to fit any area to your exact specs and are cheaper than the first site

Can I come and play at your house, Prufrock (oh, and DC too I suppose)?

tassis · 12/03/2007 20:17

truly lovely, but do children actually play in these?

exbury · 12/03/2007 20:22

I really want a playhouse for DC - not bothered about how "pretty" it is, but I would like it to be a little more weather/bug proof than the cheapest ones you get, just so that it lasts (DS is 4, DD 5 months, and I know I played "dens" until I was at least 9 or 10). In fact, I don't want it too pretty / definitely a mini-house, as I want it to be a house/castle/den/clubhouse/pirate ship as imagination demands.

Any ideas (apart from having a bespoke one built, as we are really not talking that sort of budget!)?

prufrock · 12/03/2007 20:25

Yes - mine (4 and 2) were out there all afternoon after school until 5:30 when I called them in for tea. Last summer theyliterally stayed out there from after breakfast to bedtime somedays - ds would have his nap upstairs whilst dd did drawing downstairs, and they would beg to eat their lunch and tea outside (they now have a minature garden table and chairs with umbrella on the balcony) And we have created a garden for them inside the fence and dd goes out every morning to count how many daffodils have got flowers on. It was expensive, but the best "toy" I've ever bought.
And because it's on 2 levels it's high enough that in future years we can adapt it and there will be enough headroom for it ot be a teenagers refuge

HEIFER · 12/03/2007 20:46

DH has agreed to make one when we move (sometime in the summer)..

And after showing him the prices, reckons he should ditch his day job and become a playhouse carpenter!...

HEIFER · 12/03/2007 20:49

even if he has to go to night school...

Actually have no idea if he has the capabilities to build a playhouse - but he is willing to give it a go...

edam · 12/03/2007 20:53

How much?! Thought I needed new glasses for a minute there. Blimey, Some people really do have more money than sense.

Sparkler1 · 12/03/2007 20:54

They are lovely - I'm sure they must have missed the decimal point out somewhere in those prices, surely?

CantSlimWontSlim · 13/03/2007 14:43

prufrock - just wanted to say thanks for the link to the place you got yours from. As we're visiting my parents in Worcs at the weekend dh has agreed that we can go and have a look at their display area. Did you look there before buying, and if so, do they have much actually on display at one go?

prufrock · 13/03/2007 21:12

No I didn't - I did it all from drawings and e-mails. But I know they said they have quite a few on display. I think it's quite a small operation though - the guy who owns the company designs all the houses and comes and erects them (which takes just one day btw - you have to have the slabs/concrete laid). And they are really good at putting in everything you want - our design process was kind of " I want this bit of that one, and that bit of this one, oh and a slide and a picket fence"

CantSlimWontSlim · 13/03/2007 22:06

Oh cool, I like the sound of that design process. Off to do some more browsing of their site with that in mind!

Skribble · 13/03/2007 22:58

Why not get a basic hut and design round that . A cool paint job would make it look fab and they won't grow to tall for it by the time they are 6years. It can be used as a den as they get older.

CantSlimWontSlim · 13/03/2007 23:11

Because we don't do 'basic' in this household , and I'd like multi levels and slides, and to buy it all finished, as we don't get the time (or inclination) to do painting etc ourselves. Good idea for others though .
