I have 3 boys (4 and 5) who love bouncing on friends trampolines. I have decided it is about time they had one of their own.

Questions -

  1. which is a good make
  2. how big (realistically they will all bounce at the same time despite the warnings not to)
  3. where to get from
  4. round or oblong
  5. saftey net or not.

And DH wants to know how you stop it blowing away in strong winds (we are in a fairly exposed place).

we've got This one for ds who is 5.5 - he had it for his 5th birthday, great fun and extremely good value for money

i would say - yes get a net - especially if there are 3 on at onc you can sometimes get pushed or bounced off your feet.

get as big as you can afford (the 8ft is quite small) for the 3 of them, no they are not supposed to go on together but they probably will.

I can recommend "Jump for Fun" - but get one around 14' with a net. Think they do packages now (they didn't when I bought ours!) We live in a windy area and the trampoline is very heavy so has never moved - but I think you can buy securing ties if it is an issue.
You really need to try and stop the kids bouncing together though or they will get hurt.

Gobbledigook · 12/03/2007 12:27

We've got this one - 14ft

It's fabbo but I didn't get a net and I wish I had. They are out of stock now so I'm just waiting till they come in now.

I've got 3 boys too - 2, 4, almost 6 - they love it and they do bounce on it together. Tbh, it's not advisable - ds3 gets squashed so we try to make two sit on the side while one has a go and then take turns.

Get one though - it's money well spent!

throckenholt · 12/03/2007 13:16

thanks - that helps.

I will also wade through the previous trampoline threads .

I know they should not really bounce together but being realistic there are times they will - I guess you have to teach them to be as safe as possible.

let me know what you find, throckenholt! I'm thinking of getting one for my dc, who love to jump on the furniture.

throckenholt · 14/03/2007 09:40

any more recommendations or things to stear clear of ? I am still wading through the past threads and haven't yet come to a conclusion about what to avoid.

i have the TP Vienna 8ft, big enough for two or three little ones but for older ones then go as big as you can fit!

definitely definitely get a net (even though costs more than the trampoline)

if you get a net then don't bother with the cover as you can't fit the cover with the net attached.

ours didn't shift an inch with those winds last month even though the 6 burner gas bbq went across the lawn and the fence came down. so i think they're pretty solid. BUt you can get an "anchor down kit"

thanks for those comments. Space is not a problem - we have half an acre . Wind - however is a problem - will look in to the anchor kits too.

I have a 10ft round one, made by Mad Dash Toys. It takes up to a max of 150kg, so that means DS1(nearly 15), DS2(13.5), DD(4.5) and I can all bounce on it together . We have a net (invaluable imo, unless you are countersinking the trampoline). It was a BRILLIANT buy.

throckenholt · 14/03/2007 11:44

is it big enough to take all of you at the same time ? I have a friend who has an 8ft one, wasn't sure how much bigger the 10ft ones are. Stupid question - is 10ft the diameter across it ?

OP posts:
Furball · 14/03/2007 12:29

yes but it's not the actual bouncin area as there is 1f of padding all the way round so you lose 2ft off the width. 8ft one is quite small

Furball · 14/03/2007 12:29

1 ft

throckenholt · 14/03/2007 12:51

thanks furball. I am trying to decide whether to go for the 12ft one or go for the biggie (14ft) - or maybe that will be too big.

too many choices

  1. which is a good make
Supertramp is the best make. All frames and beds seem to be about the same. The pads are where the quality shines thro
  1. how big (realistically they will all bounce at the same time despite the warnings not to)
14ft is perfect for family use.
  1. where to get from
On line.
  1. round or oblong
Round for family use.

We got one 5 years ago for the mindees, 10ft with a net, got it from the REAL TRAMPOLINE COMPANY, it is still going strong, with at least 6 mindees in the house at one time who all love it.

Loshad · 14/03/2007 13:17

We have a 14' one - just googled for a good price and bought it, had it ages, stays out all winter, kids love it, and all bounce together. I ddin't get a net because i've seen the wild behaviour of children with nets (ok my own children at other people's houses )but they just used the net as a wall of death
we are really exposed and windy, and i did mean to buy an anchor down kit, but in typical loshad fashion "didn't get around to it" - we had the strongest winds here for 18 years, and lost some big trees, but the tramp stayed put

throckenholt · 14/03/2007 13:49

brilliant - thanks for the advice

Best deals are on ebay. We had one with a safety net like this picture . After a couple of years the safety net slipped down the poles and the blue surround got torn because the children ran on that a lot. It's actually cheaper for us to replace the whole package than buy a safety net and blue surround separately.

I think we are going to try a safey net like this or this this time.

Saker · 14/03/2007 14:03

Also our trampoline never blew but both my brother's and BIL's have blown across the garden.
