iCandy Apple vs Quinny Buzz

Ok, so know this subject has been done to death but I'm looking for a comprehensive review of both buggies. Up until a couple of weeks ago my first choice was the Quinny Buzz 2006 version but I've seen such mixed reviews about it that I'm now thinking about the iCandy Apple. Does anyone have any experience of either model. My main criteria is that it must be able to face me, it should also be able to fold with the seat still in reverse position. It would be nice if the seat unit were suitable for a newborn and it would be fantastic if I could attach a buggy board from time to time. Am I asking for the impossible?

Answers on a postcard!

Well I have the Buzz and it is driving me mad at the moment. Just spent all day at the shops getting stuck due to the huge back wheels. It also can't be folded when facing the rear. It is not suitable for a newborn and you would need to buy the dreami carrycot.

Dob't know anything about the icandy so couldn't compare the 2

Just to make the decision making process harder there is the icandy cherry out soon which is front and rear facing but lighter than the apple. I have looked at the buzz and personally dont like the handle and felt it was not very sturdy and didnt drive very well. However I know many people like them.

I've got the iCandy and am am hating it more and more eah day. We got it as it can face towards us and due to the extendable handle but it is just a pain in the arse. Reasons I hate it are

  1. Have to dismantle it to fold it up, which doesn't take long but is a total faff and the seat doesn't compress so is a pain to store if you don't have much room
  2. Massively bulky and completely fills the boot of our car
  3. Heavy and akward to steer imo
  4. The sun shade is completely crap and doesn't shield ds unless he is in the most upright position possible
  5. The rain gear is only designed to fit on when it is facing forward so you end up having to improvise and the slightest gust of wind in enough to blow it off
  6. Can't attach a buggy board
  7. Seat unit only suitable for 6months but there is a pram bit that comes with it

Good point is that the shopping basket is relatively big so you can fir quite a bit under there

That is my personal feelings on the whole thing. At the time I was buying a pushchair having something that faced towards me was really important. Now I wish I hadn't have been so fixed in my thinking and had gone for a Phil and Teds like alot of my mummy friends had advised me. I really want to change but I'm not sure dh will let me owing to the cost!!

Hi I have an Icandy apple (11mo and 3 and a bit year old). Pros are
1.Buggy board fits really well, and great as you can extend handle for child when they are on it.
2 Love having baby facing me.
3 Basket is huge

  1. Really easy to adjust buggy to lie flat

Cons are
1.weight...have a p and T and a jane powertrack and they are much easier to steer, even one handed.
2 One handed steering hard but just possible with iCandy.
Don't ever fold it so can't comment. Buggy not suitable til 6 months, although can buy a pram bit. Occasionally think it may tip over...front wheels not air filled so can get stuck in ruts in pavements (used to air filled, if you are not then you probably wouldn't notice.) I would wait til the Cherry comes out if weight is an issue. Overall, glad I bought it. Have you looked at Britax 3g Vigour? Has air filled front wheels.

FirstAtForty · 14/03/2007 15:13

I think the wheel base is a bit narrower on the iCandy than the Buzz (which is ridiculously wide), but not by very much.

iCandy has a bigger basket (and it comes as standard).

iCandy is probably the more expensive option (basic £350ish) as you can't get many ebay bargains yet (and I think they are still not selling new online anywhere).

Hood on the Buzz is a bit rubbish as well, though the raincover does fit facing either way (but it's tight fitting and you have to take the whole thing off to access the baby should you need to.)

FirstAtForty · 14/03/2007 15:15

all the comments below refer to the Apple btw.

The Cherry has solid small wheels so not air tyre if that's important.

hth!

Has anyone any knowledge of the new Inglesina that is both forward or rear facing? Can't remeber what it's called but I loved the Zippy - just wished it had faced me...

Beetlebug · 15/03/2007 11:13

Thanks for all your replies so far. Being the fickle person that I am I have now discarded my initial dreams of pushing my ne baby around in a Buzz or Icandy in favour of this this which is exactly the same as this but much cheaper. Has anybody had any exerience of either of these buggy's? I was swung by the fact that it has hard wheels (I'm not keen on having to worry about flat tyres) and baby can face me, not to mention the price. Emailed the company to find out if they plan on introducing an infant car seat to match...I wait with bated breath!

Just in case anyone is intrested the ABC Design Astro comes with rain cover, carrycot and large basket and comes in at aprox £220-£240 including shipping costs from Germany. The Uppababy comes with the same accessories and will set you back anywhere between £390-£420 including shipping costs from the States.

ooh, good have someone to talk to! i saw an icandy cherry this morning and i love it but very pricey, just checked out your link only thing that worries me is the weight, its 11kg so is similar in weight to the apple whereas the cherry is 7.5kg (with seat not carrycot)...there is an ad for one of these in blue in classifieds but not seen anyone else posting about it.

Beetlebug · 17/03/2007 17:51

Hi littleducks! Snap! I've also been watching the Topmark buggy listed on ebay but I wasn't keen on the colour. I was absolutely determined to get the Buzz at one stage till I saw it in the shop. Any ideas on what your going to do yet? This whole buggy thing is getting on my very last nerve.

OP posts:
littleducks · 17/03/2007 17:58

have my reservations about the colour too, but you get the whole system for £60 less than just the cherry buggy no carrycot.....
