Maxi Cosi Tobi v. Britax isofix in non-isofix car.?

We're looking for a new forward facing carseat for DD2. DD1 has the Maxi Cosi Priori XP and we've been really pleased with it but we're thinking of 'upgrading' to the Tobi and wondered if anyone has got one and what you think? I have read one review that said that the seatbelt mechanism is a bit tempremental and you have to hoover the seat a lot of keep crumbs out the mechanism. My car is always so messy I'm not sure I'd be disciplined enough!

The other option is to put the Britax Isofix seat from DH's car into mine but I'm not convinced an isofix seat in a non-isofix car would fit well (I have a 2004 Almera). What do you think?

The Maxi cosis seem to fit so well in my car and safey is really important but it's a lot of money considering we have another car seat just sitting in DH's car.

i would stick with the maxi cosi priori u already have

whilst the maxi cosi tobi scored slightly better in the independant crash tests the priori still scores very highly for safety.

The britax isofix is one of the safest when in isofix mode, but not as safe when strapped in using belts.

your child will be safe in the priori strapped in with a seat belt then the britax isofix starpped in with a seat belt.

If however you are concerned for your child to be as safe as possible in a nonisofix car them consider upgrading to the tobi, otehr wise live with the fact the your priori is "one of the" safest non isofix seats rather than the safest!

Hi NannyL - sorry was being a bit unclear earlier - DD1 is only 2.5, so still needs her priori xp. DD2 is nearly a year but only just big enough to go forward facing now so it's whether to get another car seat for DD2 (the tobi) or try to fit the isofix in my car. I'm not convinced of the safety of it so will probably buy a Tobi if I can be sure that it is as good as it looks!

I have the tobi and yes, the harness mechanism is a bit fiddly. My friend has one too and we are both experiencing the same problems so it must be a design issue. Th main problem is that the belt is meant to slacken when you release the clip. this only happens maybee 1 in 10 times so the rest of the time I have to bend ds arms around to get him out the harness.
I also think that ds head seems to sit quite forward in the seat - the head rest seems quite far away and his head bobs a bit I feel - been meaning to go back to John Lewis to discuss both these things. It is a good seat though - rock solid as the harness goes round the front of the seat as well as the back and

Thanks Scotgirl - that sounds a bit of a faff with the harness thing. DD is such a fusspot I don't think she'd like it at all. They have you with baby stuff because you need it so can't afford to send it back etc etc, we ended up mending the brake on our Double buggy ourselves as we couldn't do without for the 4 weeks it would have taken to send it away to Ireland to be fixed...
