Swingball

I was feeling unusually indecisive standing in the Toy Department in John Lewis today, so I thought I'd turn to Mumsnet for a bit of advice!

Can anyone tell me which Swingball they would recommwnd - the traditionhal spike in the ground one, or the one with a base you can fill with water or sand. The first one is cheaper, but the second sounds more versatile. I just wondered how stable the base would be and whether it would get in the way when you're playing a game.

A bit mundane I know, but I would appreciate any recommendations before I go ahead and buy one to amuse the children during the summer holidays.

I have the first one Xanthe, My parents have the second base-type at their house, so the kids can play there.

The second type ever time IMO. MUCH better, and worth the extra expense IMO.

P.S if you have an Aldi near you, they are selling them for £9.99 - bargain!!

We had a swingball over 20 years ago that went into a base it also had a spike thing that would have gone in the ground.

Anyway DS has now inherited it and we always had it in a base. No probs with it getting in the way. You do need to fill with water otherwise it will move as they hit the ball.

So IMHO get the one on the base or it will ruin the lawn.

Have fun

We have this cheap and cheerful one from Argos , and it's great! Best £20 I've spent in an awfully long time.

We had the spike in the ground one as children, and after a while the hole enlarges and it all wobbles around a bit. With this one you fill the base with water (or sand if your kids are likely to hit the ball really hard) and away you go. It's very stable, and doesn't get in the way, and all the stuff packs away in the base for winter.

Buy it!
