I got one of the book inserts of these - but we don't have the actual leappad thingy...I was wondering the same thing too. or should I just take the insert back to woolies & change it for something?

mummysurfer · 04/07/2004 17:19

yes, i'd recommend them. our 2 have really played with ours. wish thedid more older books tho'

bundle · 04/07/2004 17:19

one is called First leap pad - is that the one they have? or should i go straight for the 'older' one (dd is 4 but not a reader yet)

maisystar · 04/07/2004 17:21

my ds (3 1/2) has got the first leap pad and it's fab. really good for journeys etc.

mummysurfer · 04/07/2004 17:22

i'd go straight for the older one. dd was 4 when she got it, but ds started to use it _Thomas book) from about 2 but with our help to make sure he didn't pull the pen out, rip pages etc

(btw I saw it was £5 off in ARgos the other day )

I love the leappad - keeps mine quiet for ages! It took them a bit of time to get into it but now they love playing the games and the songs. Don't get the first leappad if she is 4. Mine are 2 and 3 and are fine with the Leappad (not My First Leappad). It doesn't matter if she can't read because it reads to them. Just get the basic books (they all come in levels) then all the games are based on stuff she should be able to do (i.e. Find the blue ball etc. so not based on them being able to read). There are other quite educational books that do phonics etc. and I think it has really bought my 3 year old's 'reading' on.

Have to say that my ds is not as interested but then he is very much a run and jump child rather than a sit down and colour/play child!

Thanks everyone - ds will be 4 soon, so I'm going to get him one for his b'day. Not very exciting I know, but he's loads of toys and I'm a bit stuck as to what to get him, so a leappad it is

They are excellent! Mine loves his!

bundle · 04/07/2004 17:56

don't think it matters how you get it, if they have it in stock. you can reserve at a branch near you too.

Poppy1978 · 04/07/2004 18:28

They are good, but my 4 year old just broke hers. So I think they are better for a little older.

They do do a range of books for older kids in US but not sure how easy they are to come by in UK - non fiction as well as basic learning books. There is a Quantum Pad for older kids but perhaps the books may be compatible with the Leappad. Have a look here , or perhaps there are some on ebay.
