Pop-Up Travel Cot.... any good??

We will be travelling down to DH's parents in Liverpool quite alot after the baby is born as DH should hopefully have his driving license!
We don't have a travel cot and DH's parents one broke.
We can't afford a big car so will have limited boot space and a pram and our luggage will more than fill the average boot!

So.... I spotted a pop-up moses basket-sized travel cot on Kiddicare.com and wondered if anyone had used it??? I can't remember the name of it.... but I'm off to look for the link. It's about £30, but they have a fullsized travel cot for £35....
Any comments/advice?

someone gave us one, it was a britax one but it was fabric with a mattress and it just opened out. It was flat to start with. Is it similar? Its a bit like a fabric box

Get a full sized one, it'll last you longer.
You'll need a full sized one for whenever you go anywhere and little one is rolling around, crawling, pulling to stand etc.
The pop up one is only for teeny new borns and you may as well put them on a double bed with loads of cushions put under the duvet, or make a nest on the floor with spare duvet and cusions etc. I understand the space thing but keep the spare cot at his aprents????

or a moses basket on the floor. Can baba not sleep in the pram?

I'd agree if you are going to spend that sort of money it would be better to get something which might have longer use. Is the pram suitable for overnight sleeping ?

Toothache · 28/06/2004 15:24

It's called a Samsonite Pop-Up Cot. It's oval shaped. I'd do a link, but the address at the top of the page doesn't seem to change from www.kiddicare.com when you go into the travel cot section!?

Thomcat - Why didn't I think of that??? DOH!

The pram isn't really suitable for overnight sleeping. We usually visit for 4 or 5 nights at time and getting the pram up and down the stairs would be a nightmare!

Ah... got it, here's the link! It's the 2nd one down...

It's only any good if you have a back-sleeping baby. Ours sleep on their fronts and the so-called mattress just rucks up when they wriggle. The baby will outgrow it very quickly, and in that time he or she will sleep just as well and as safely in a padded drawer. You might as well get a proper cot or travel cot and if necessary leave it at the in-laws.

i'd busk it with a made up bed on the floor and then buy a bif full sized cot when you are in Liverpool and keep the cot there if you're going to be there quite a lot. We have a travel cot permantly set up at my PIL's and a proper cot at my mums and my dad makes up a bed on the floor at his house and sort of baricades her in!!! It sems to work for them so i don't interfere!

Toothache - I live in Liverpool and have a Moses Basket, stand plus lots of sheets and blankets going spare, if that's any good. Handles are a bit knackered. Have to warn you DS is a sicky baby - will disinfect Moses Basket before getting rid of it!

Ahem: when dd2 was that size I just took her into bed with me on the admittedly rare occasions we went anywhere. Don't usually co-sleep, but it saved hassle!
