Anyone got one of those static floor cleaner things (swiffer etc)

Do they work? We have a number of wooden and laminate floors which seem to collect an inordinate amount of fluff (where does it come from?) and I was wondering whether getting one of these would work?

I've got one but we never use it. We just hoover which works just as well and is cheaper than buying those static pads you need for the swiffer (they get full really quickly). You can have mine if you like .

I've got a swiffer and it works well, but it only picks up well if you sweep every day - if there is too much dust, or large bits like little crumbs, then it just pushes the stuff along like an ordinary broom. TBH I think ordinary sweeping and vacuuming work better in real once-a-week-cleaning-if-you're-lucky life.

get a balloon rub it over your small childs hair

turn child upside down ti pick up fluff

We found the swifter type things a bit weak and they eventually bend a bit. We now have like a tall, upright dustpan and brush set which works really well. At the moment I have a more sturdy wet system (looks like a stringer version of the static ones) for mopping. But again Bh I find that the best way to get the dust and mess up if s to get on my hands and knees and just wipe it.

aha! Hula my long handled dustpan and brsuh is my best friend!

i've been using a swiffer for about 3 yaers now. we have hard floors throughout most of the house and i fid it v useful and it does pick up all the dust, dog hairs, fluff. ideal for under the beds. clean all the upstairs in 5 min with it. istead of buying the re-fill dry wipes, i use a dry dustcloth (the type they sell in department stores and homebase advertised on TV, they come 3 in a pack and are supposed to be v absorbent etc) which attaches easily to the swipper and i wash the cloth every other week but i do shake the dust from it after every sleaning session. hope this helps. i would recommend this product.

got mine after we went to spain onhol and I fell in lurv!

I dont know how people manage without them tbh

I've got one for quick clean ups and it works quite well, I tend to use the wet cloths rather than the dry ones though, also take it off and turn inside out and use to wipe by hand. The "fully gimbled" (as DH would say) head is really good. Weekly hoover still needed though but it keeps me going between visits from the cleaner The best thing I've got is my trusty rubber broom from Lakeland.

We use one esp. in DS bedroom as floor is taken over by lego.

Is brill, does not damage lego models. A broom gets lego bits caught up.

DS has lino on floor as he has asthma.

They are fantastic for reaching under sofas. I don't know how mine manage it but there are always an abundance of toys, bricks, cars etc etc underneath my sofas and the swifter can get them all out with one sweep.

I've got a swiffer type thing that's great for the fluff that collects on our not-really-limestone bathroom floors. Don't use it elsewhere as we have floorboards and it catches - I think you have to have a really smooth surface.

Davros - I love my rubber broom too - brilliant for the balcony.

Thanks for all your comments. Looks like the general consensus is that they're useful so I think I'll try and get one although I notice our local Asda doesn't seem to sell them anymore. I'm so fed up with having to lug the hoover around everytime it gets fluffy.
