We're thinking of getting one for the dts 2nd birthday at the end of the month, really thinking that it will be good for all four to play with in the summer. B&Q have 15% off atm.

What I would like to know is, do you have to lay some sort of base first, or can you just plonk it on the lawn?
We've also got a bit of a slope near the end of the garden, where I ideally would like to put it, I guess I would have to level that out at least.
Also, how hard are they to put up, or dismantle? We're in a rented house, and don't see ourselves moving anytime soon, but when we do eventually leave, I'd like to take it with us.

Need a base ours is on slabs.

buktus · 06/03/2007 10:14

ours is base on fence post its 10 x 8 so it has quite a strong base. The fence post are are round the whole length and width of the house and then several running across then it is tied down into the ground also its a very frim base much the same as you would do when laying decking

Get one from The Great Little Trading Company, they will build it for you

buktus · 06/03/2007 10:42

i dont think they build the base ofr you though

gltc are also £££! B&Q have some lovely ones for £200 or so. I'm not sure how long the novelty will last so I'm not spending too much. I think I will have to get one delivered then decide if posts or patio is the way to go. Thanks.

DD has this one - painted different colour.
We lais a base of concrete slabs - best to be off the grass as the base may rot and the whole playhouse damp and mouldy.

Ah cant answer that one ours is on stilts

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 11:38

that was the first one we looked at, gingerbear We're still thinking about that one.

One more question, did the kids use them much? I really don't want it to end up as a glorified shed.

tnalady, I'm so tempted to do that to p*ss of the neighbours She hates the fact that my four are out so much in summer, when she wants to sit quietly - even suggested rotaing use of the garden, and then she put up a 6ft high fence!

we are thinking of this one

we have one from B&Q. It is on our patio so didn't need to worry about base. We thought that if we ever moved we would take it with us but it was a pita to put up so I'd be amazed if we managed to disemmble it correctly.
It is painted a lovely sage green and looks very nice (although one of the windows have holes and the floor is covered in mud). In winter it is just storage for bikes and toys.

TenaLady · 06/03/2007 11:43

heres ours

paulaplumpbottom · 06/03/2007 11:43

Very nice

cupcakes · 06/03/2007 11:44

this is our one

I love the two storey playhouses (a friend has one) but I'd be terrified about dd2 climbing up and falling down.

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 11:44

hmm, that is worrying. I really wouldn't want to leave it.

That is huge enid! You must have a massive garden. We're thinking of this

OP posts:
Enid · 06/03/2007 11:45

I want this one but too ££££

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 11:46

mm, I dont think I would trust dt2 with stairs. He managed to jump out of his bedroom window - a little houdini in the making.

OP posts:
Enid · 06/03/2007 11:46

yes massive garden

well not massive but big enough for one of those

the bigger the better wth three girls

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 11:46

I prefer the first link, enid. That one looks like a garage.

our garden is fairly big, but in the summer we have the bouncy castle and ball pit, the swing and slide, a huge waterplay thing and a smaller water pool and slide, and I don't want to get rid of any of that. I sit on the patio with the laptop on mn while they wear themselves out.
