Calling Enid and/or others knowledgeable in the ways of posh wellies

I want to get my dad a pair of spectacularly fantastic wellington boots to do his muddy walks in (birthday approaching fast). They need to be ones that he will swoon over because they are fab in every way a wellington could be fab. I googled those Aigle ones you mentioned on the pricey but worth it thread, Enid, and they look brilliant, though I do see what you mean by pricey. But I'm confused with the different linings. Are the leather lined ones the best as the price implies or does it depend? If so, what does it depend on? And are any other brands worth considering? My dad really is a sweetie and deserves the lovliest wellies possible so I will be eternally grateful for any advice from you or anyone else with wellie expertise.

Thanks Orlando.

Le Chamois

Hunters

Aigle

So is there anything to choose between the above? Or would anyone suggest any others? And is that the kind of (eye watering) price I should expect to pay for truely great wellies, do you think?

I think partly it comes down to fit (which isn't great advice considering you're giving them as a present! unless you can get your dad to try them on first?) I prefer the Le Chameau ones because they fit me really well - huge feet but thin ankles and calves.

When you look at the price, it is ridiculous actually. But it depends on how much you think your dad is going to wear them. As I mentioned earlier, I practically live in mine - I wear them every day for anywhere up to 4/5 hours a day so for me I felt it was worth spending a lot. On the other hand, DH only wears his a couple of times a week, so he's got much cheaper ones.

But there's no doubting that at that price, they are a luxury! Have you looked at Ebay, maybe there are some cheaper ones there?

ScummyMummy · 05/03/2007 10:09

No- I can definitely see how fit would be important, Orlando. I do want them to be a surprise though...

Ok- I'm leaning towards the Aigle as they are slightly cheaper but still dead posh and they look rather dashing with the black rubber/brown leather lining thing. Anyone got any further thoughts for me before I take the wellington plunge? Are these the correct luxury wellies for a super fab 64 year old bloke?

just seen this

ignore all posters - the Aigle Parcours are fab because they are designed as walking wellies - ie you can go for really long walks in them and they support your ankles etc. Mine are neoprene lined and superb.

He will NOT be disappointed.

Enid · 05/03/2007 15:40

half calf a PITA if you life in the middle of serious mud

Enid · 05/03/2007 15:40

ooh did you get the aigle ones?

Enid · 05/03/2007 15:41

did you get the leather lined?

they are called 'poachers boots' round here as they are so comfortable you can wear them all day

excellent choice

ScummyMummy · 05/03/2007 16:11

Yes, I got the leather lined Aigle, Enid. I will tell him they are poacher's boots. He will like that.
