kiddygaurd nightmare !!

Dh just put up our kiddygaurd up, as the space between the kitchen and a conservatory is 114cm and also has a small step down. Cos his royal highness has got the patience of a nat and couldnt be bothered to fix it to the plinth lower down with a batton at the the top, hes put it on with a gap above the plinth and the step, which means theres a gap between the floor and the step of about 4 inches !!!In a couple of hours dd will learn to sqaush herfself through and render it useless. Its also quite hard to open & seems to take an inordanate amout of time to do so , which means if I need to rush to her whilst in the kitchen its gonna take a while. Im sure its meant to be easier than this. Anyone else have problems with it , as it states it easily open with one hand but you do the release thing and the top hook is easy but then it locks up again and you cant do the bottom. DH now refuses to put the 2nd one on the bottom of our staircase as he thinks its rubbish!!!The kiddygaurd is the only one that goes narrow enough for here, as gap is 71cm. Oh why are these things sooo complicated aaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

Sympathy. Dh spent hours swearing and cursing fixing a stairgate last weekend. When he'd finished and called me to admire it discovered the daft so and so had bodged it because our skirting boards aren't quite big enough to fit the bottom catch on. He's cut out a little block of wood to fix the bottom catch to. Only the screw supplied isn't long enough for the block so the stairgate doesn't fix at the bottom at all. Seems relatively secure with just top catch done at the moment but I'm sure ds will soon be strong enough to get round that... so the whole thing needs re-doing. Why he didn't just fix it just above the skirting board like a sensible person I don't know (gap would be a couple of inches FFS don't think ds's head would fit)>

Thanx eddm , got you annoyed to this gate thing. I hate them hate them hate them. Its going back NOW . DD just had a hissy fit and hyperventitalted herself into a frenzy behind it the stoooooooooooooopid gate.I couldnt get it open to get to her, nearly had me go into panic too. So dh just dragged her up leaning over.STOOOOOOOOOOPID , stooooopid thing . I think she feels very blocked from us , as b4 we just had a footstool there and a big cushion blocking it , so Ive just put those back & shes happy as larrry again!!! I dont think JLP will take it back as weve use it for 5 mins and marked it also. OH BUMMM!!! sooo and frustrated. Now Im really stuck.
