Has anyone seen a nice one at a reasonable price? We'll be redecorating ds's (small) bedroom soon and want to move him into a cabin style bed with storage/play area underneath....
TIA

mrs badger directed me to a great site for bunks and cabin beds... shes the woman you need.

have you tried ikea? i think the childrens furniture there is brilliant, such good value.

no idea how much it costs, but i noticed that habitat have a really fun bed in its new VIP for kids range...

shouldbedoingthehousework · 03/03/2007 12:04

Thanks I'll have to keep a look out for Mrs Badger Ikea do have one we quite like the look of in the catologue but they don't have it for us to look at at our local store atm. I'll have a look on the habitat website, they used to do great kids furniture in the past.

some other places, tho not exactly 'budget' options are; the childrens furniture co, Aspace, the white co (i think) and ... um... will post more as i think of them (have spent a lot of time looking for kids bunks fairly recently )

shouldbedoingthehousework · 03/03/2007 12:17

Habitat have a really lovely looking bunk bed (pricy though - £550ish - is that what I should be expecting to have to spend? ) but I was really after a high bed with storage under rather than another bed... Their VIP range is great though and has given me ideas for other things in the room
Any other ideas anyone?

dont even look at the childrens furniture co... about a grand for a set of bunks !!

this looks interesting...

that website of mrsbadgers is good... much more resonable prices... i would say about 200 mark and below...

ikea best value if you can find something there

NappiesGalore · 03/03/2007 12:29

yes! thats the one...i saw it in-store... looks SO much fun (am a bit miffed as have already bought bunks from Aspace now. theyre v nice, but that bed looks like fun...and it takes up less room that a standard single too (you need to check dimensions coz its not that big)

NappiesGalore · 03/03/2007 12:32

aspace cabin beds page

shouldbedoingthehousework · 03/03/2007 12:35

aspace look good
Ikea have a cheap and cheerful one here that can also be assembled as a low bed (although ds is almost 4 - I think he could cope with ladders etc) I'm just not sure it looks v sturdy tbh...

we looked around for ages before we settled on this one from tesco. they also do various playtent and slide versions if you don't need the storage.

£250 not to be sneezed at (plus clubcard points and quidco cashback), it has loads of storage but still room for a "hiding place" which dd (3) was most excited about. personally i would have preferred it in white but we can always paint it eventually. seems perfectly sturdy, has transformed her room and she loves it.

oh but don't get their cheapest mattress cos it's shite

JackieNo · 03/03/2007 15:03

We've been looking at these too - the cheapest I've found are at Argos - This one's the current favourite. The trouble is, there's no way to see what they're like before you buy them.

JackieNo · 03/03/2007 15:04

Here you go - here are the rest of them at Argos

Debbiethemum · 03/03/2007 15:26

DS has the white pine (not spindle) one from Argos and we really like it. However the mattress is crap and will need replacing, we are going to change it for a foam one from Ikea as that is the same mattress as on dd's bed and is a lot more comfortable.

NappiesGalore · 03/03/2007 15:37

the trouble with anything very very cheap is that it'll be made from formica-veneeered chipboard which may not stand the test of time too well.... which is absolutely fine if you only intend to use it for a few years...and you dont screw up the assembly when it arrives flat-packed

JackieNo · 03/03/2007 15:41

Yes nappiesgalore - that's why I'm hesitating. Mind you, there are a lot being sold on ebay - you can narrow it down by postcode, so you only get the ones that are in picking-updistance of you. Might be worth a look.

NappiesGalore · 03/03/2007 15:44

oh absolutely. you may well find a real gem that way... something theyve grown out of and will accept a small amount for just to be rid of it... good thinking.

puppydavies · 03/03/2007 15:48

tesco one is solid pine.

Niddlynono · 03/03/2007 15:54

DS has the 'Kura' bed from Ikea and it's great. Quite sturdy enough for DH to sleep in if DS comes into our bed. We had it as a low bed first and turned it into the higher bed when DS was nearly 4.

shouldbedoingthehousework · 03/03/2007 16:16

Really don't want to get into the false economy of buying cheap now but having to replace within a few years...

There are a few good suggestions here - need to get measuring in ds's room and think about it all properly....He has a large pine wardrobe in there already (too big in someways but great storage so I was thinking of either a desk underneath or a den/toy storage area...Lots of ideas coming up here, thanks everyone

oooh hello

We have been looking for one, for DS too....he has a small box room, but I need a tall one with a wardrobe built in, as there isn't enough room for a wardrobe seperatly.
There is a nice one in the Argos Catalogue...can't find it on the web site though.
