clarks verse startrite

dd last three pairs of shoes have been clarks she did wear startrite when she was younger. Found the startrite so expensive and never got much wear before needed next size, but couldn't get clarks to fit. Now she's older the clarks seem to fit better, but I have found they get sruffy so quickly. Is that just what happens with school shoes or is it worth paying the extra money for startrite.

the older they get the more they scuff shoes I find. ds is forever on his hands and knees and scuffing the front of his. I think it'd happen whichever ones you buy.

I had a horrendous time in the summer trying to buy my dd's first pair of school shoes, either didnt have her size or they didnt fit, I was beginning to lose the will to live. Anyway, eventually found some startrite and I was getting desperate so bought them, £38 if I can remember correctly. The shop assistant told me that they will last a long time as startrite dyes the leather all the way through not just the surface. And after being quite badly scuffed they still look fairly good. The leather is rough where they have been scuffed but still black and once polished almost as good as new. So it probably has been worth it, the shoes look fine and I think they will probably keep her going until I need to buy her some summer ones.

I was told that too jenkel. But I got DD2 a pair of startrite a couple of weeks ago. They look as bad as the Clarks when scuffed, IMO.

I have found Startrite fitters better on the whole than Clarks.

We always choose startrite over Clarks, although theya re dearer. We found the quality was better and also the choice of designs. DD's current school shoes are a different make all together though - can't remember but the shoe box comes with a craft set to turn it into a giraffe.

Been talking to mums in the playgroud. I think startrite have the edge. must take her shoe shopping. can now see the linning of the shoe on the toe. That just scuffing and the leather not holding out. Just over a terms wear of clarks shoes.
Thank for the feedback

agree with jenkel
bought startrite for dds first school shoes and with a shine and polish they still look new(ish)

I'm so disappointed with Clarks at the moment. I bought DS1 a pair in min-January but the stitching came undone around the toes so I took them back to the shop and exchanged them for a new pair on the 19th Feb (to be exact). I've just had to take the 2nd pair back because exactly the same thing has happened. Utter crap.

Poor DS1 is now in plimsoles/wellies until the end of the week when I can rush off to Russell & Bromley for some Startrites!

I go for Startright because I really trust the fitter in our little local independent shoe shop. And you can get a card stamped to get the 7th pair half price. I've always been really pleased with them and prefer the styles to the Clarks ones.

not happy dd clarks shoes are now coming unstiched at the velcro strap I'll have to get the supergule out. should keep them going till I get to startrite.
Surely shoes should last longer then 1 1/4 terms.

I'd always bought Clarks, until my sister got a job in the StartRite head office. Family loyalty has instigated a change.

Themis · 08/03/2007 20:11

I tend to buy Clarkes and usually at a Clarks shop until yesterday when I went to the shop , staff were very unhelpful , stood around talking , too much trouble to look up a style I wanted that they didn't have in stock.

Went to another shoes shop down the road , got some clarks shoes and the shop had a loyalty card , ended up buying three pairs of shoes for the boys , alot of money spent. I know where I will be going next time !

I wondered if Clarks' had switched to a new manufacturer. The shoes that fell apart were Made in Vietnam. The pair before that didn't have a 'Made in' label but last summers Doodles were all Made in England.

Hmmmmm!

I ditched both these and buy the 'Buckle My Shoe' collection they fit so much better and are so much nicer
