Hippychick baby carrier

Has any of you used the Hippychick baby carrier, we are going to Oz in Nov and I will have a 26 month old and a 8 month old and am not sure how we will manage around the airports without the buggy. My daughter who will be 8 months old in Nov will probably be a heavy 8 month old if she carries on the way she is going at the moment. Do they make it easier to carry the baby, are the internal pockets big enough to get money/tickets/boarding passes in etc. We have a baby bjorn carrier at the moment but I dont get on at all well with it and finds that it does put a strain on my back. Any advice please.....

They are better when baby is walking to be honest (and doing the pick me up, put me down thing) and the internal pockets are nearly non existent. If I were you I would go for the Ergo carrier as it would adapt for both children and you would be hands free.

Ergo

You can also get a pouch for the Ergo that would be handy for tickets etc on your journey.

dear joanne69 - do you mean the side hip carrier? if so i think they are a waste of money as it doesn't leave your hands free. i found babybjorn too much of a strain aswell once my ds's got past 6 months. i would recommend a back carrier - a soft fabric one, not the framed ones as they are already heavy before you even put the baby in. i use a babytrekker which i find brilliant, no strain, very light, easy and quick to use, carried my ds1 until he was 3 and now use it for my ds2 (12 months)babytrekker link or if not sure of price and style try other back slings link
hope it helps x

I got a microfleece sling from Brightspark whcih was perfect for exactly the same purpose as you. 3yo ds fell asleep as the plane was landing, so he went in 15m dd's buggy, she went in the sling and they both slept. No internal pockets (it's just a folded tube of fabric), but incredibly convenient - have used it as a small blanket as well - and cheap and compact.

BTW, why aren't you taking the buggy? BA allows you to take the buggy right up to the door of the plane, where they take it away from you and bring it back to meet you at the door when you have landed. I believe other major carriers do the same?

I know Ryan air do.. not sure about long haul companies though.. worth checking though.
We have a hip seat and I find it a huge pain.. ds is only 8months though, I'm hoping it will be worth it when he is bigger.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Some of you asked why we are not taking a buggy, well we are, I know you get to keep it right up to you board your plane but have been advised by friends that they are normally checked in all the way to your destination - so you wont get it at the stop off, even if you request it you dont always get it. And in my experience, buggies come off last after all the other luggage. So it would be a nightmare with hand luggage, a toddler and a baby and trying to get all the luggage off.

Joanne, When we moved over here, we left our buggy behind and just brought a back carrier (dd1 was 9 months at the time) we managed quite well with that for quite some time until we got a buggy. You can take it onboard as hand luggage and therefore have it with you at all times.
However will add that they usually have buggys for loans at airport customer service desks... who are you flying with? where are you stopping?? for how long is you stop over??? Have been back to Oz twice in the last 12 months with 2 kids thru Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong at various times...
my best suggestion is to get your children to be as active as possible. Especially the older one, get him/her to RUN (and I mean RUN) as much as you can during the stop over if it's only short (we had our dd1 jumping off the seats and tearing around screaming & laughing in Bangkok, just to burn off some energy!)
