Anyone got a TEMPUR?

Just got a tempur bed and was wondering if anyone else had one because only spent one night on it and finding it quite hard going - as if it's sucking me in quite roughly!!! (as my previous mattress resembled a marshmellow - was lovely and soft but it was breaking my back!) . Does it take a while to get used to it or does it always feel like the morning after the night before when you can't quite peel yourself of your bed?

We have them in every room except the nursery!! They take a couple of days to get used to, but then they are the most comfortable bed ever invented.

That's reassuring as I want to like it. Am on it now and feel weirdly trapped by it! But it should sort out my back. Have you got pillows too? Only, slept on ours last night and not comfy at all, felt like sleeping with my head on a sandbag! Am I just soft?!

Now, speakinf from experience, you really need to shop arond. Dh looked for months and eventually found a mattress just as good but much much cheaper (£410 for king size with 2 pillows and delivery). He did all the saddo research into pressure per cubic inch, thickness etc etc. Think it was from memory-mattress.co.uk IIRC, or something like that.
They say it takes 2 weeks for your body to adjust to sleeping on memory foam, and TBH, I wasnt keen at first, but I love it now!

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 21:48

Yes to pillows - I can't remember what the style is called, but they're the ones that are curved to support your neck properly. I usually take them with me when I go anywhere, along with my buckwheat ones that I like to cuddle up to .

What thickness did you go for? We have 15cm (firm) on our bed, 20cm (medium) in the main spare room, and have recently got 15cm for the other guest bed too.

Also, we have got 2 tempur pillows, which Inever liked. But these 2 free ones are memory foam but all shredded up IYKWIM, and they're really nice to sleep on. Cant say as I didnt love my 10 yr old pillow from the £1 shop, but dh forced me to get rid, as he reckond it was 99% mite poo by that time anyway

Get thee away from here with thy bargains mrm .

totaleclipse · 27/02/2007 21:50

I have a tempur mattress, had it about 8 months now and I lurvvvvve it, would'nt be without it now.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 21:50

Yuk, get thee away with thy mite poo too

crystalpony · 27/02/2007 21:56

Ha re: mite poo!!

It's would say it's probably the 15cm one...

I will persevere with it then because think I'm getting old but my old mattress was definately too soft and I was waking up with a bad back everyday. Plus, it was one of those where you could choose what softness rating you wanted for your side so dh had medium while I had super soft for my side of the bed.

Inevitably this resulted in dh rolling over to my side and squishing me off the end most nights. I don't think he could do that if he tried on the tempur (I imagine it would be quite laborious getting up the momentum to roll!!) so it definately has it's benefits!

got one acouple of weeks ago and absolutly love it, but God did it smell for the first week!

crystalpony · 27/02/2007 22:02

Did it? Can't say ours smells but then we have just had a new carpet fitted and that reeks - think it's the glue or whatever - it overpowers every other smell in the house at the mo.

Impressed you can spell that csws

Our old mattress was sooo bad the springs had all become disconnected(as we discovered when we hacked it up into small pieces for the bin, to save paying £30 for the council to collect it whole!). Dh blames me for bf in the same position every night for 10 months But having said that, it was a 'top of the range' silent night less than 3 yrs old. Not very impressive!!

satine · 27/02/2007 22:08

I have a tempur pillow and love it. I never get a frozen neck any more (I used to have to walk around with my head on one side for a day - so attractive)

faustina · 28/02/2007 07:32

they always feel really hard for the first few days - I think it's to do with the fact that it's been in a cold place before delivery - my new one arrived a couple of weeks ago and I remember it felt nothing like my old one (now donated to eldest son) - more like lying on a soft brick - but it's brilliant now.
also they do smell at first but luckily had a bad cold then and didn't notice : )

Flamesparrow · 28/02/2007 07:46
