That looks brilliant but hard work to pedal. Have you tried it yet?

charliecat · 26/02/2007 20:13

That is cool!

Scootergirl · 26/02/2007 20:14

Looks amazing. I have one of those trailer you drag behing and am always slightly concerned about what's going on while I'm belting along....

NotanOtter · 26/02/2007 20:14

wow

northerner · 26/02/2007 20:14

That looks fab!!!

fannyannie · 26/02/2007 20:15

ooo I like it

lackofgravitas · 26/02/2007 20:16

I wouldn't cycle in flipflops, and neither would I look that calm and collected if I'd cycled round here with no gears! It's going to keep you very fit ... admirable bit of kit though.

TheOriginalXENA · 26/02/2007 20:17

You can hire them in battersea park or dulwich its great. We live in cornwall and its quite hilly here so I will let you know how I get on

Its a 7 gear bike

Looks great, practical, economical, environmentally friendly. Very popular in Belgium and Holland.

lackofgravitas · 26/02/2007 20:21

I couldn't see the gears! Seven should do the trick - I probably only use seven out of the ... 21, 24? ... on my normal bike. It does look loads better than a trailer, I thought those were great at CenterParcs (especially as DH did vast majority of cycling-with-trailer, heh) but they would frighten the life out of me on normal roads.

paulinka · 26/02/2007 20:22

great! how much did you pay if you don't mine saying, and wher did you buy?

mustrunmore · 26/02/2007 20:25

Oh, please tell me they are affordable I'm in love already. Not sure it'd fit down the path to ds1's nursery though. Or at least, no one else would be able to wait by the door

TheOriginalXENA · 26/02/2007 20:27

We really considered a normal bike and trailer, I was worried what they'd be up to behind me

1500- direct from denmark via ebay. The place where we hired them in london quoted us 5000 euros

Oooh that would be brilliant for Ds2 who has SN and is too big for a child seat now. We're going to Devon on holiday and would love to go cycling on the Tarka trail or something similar, but I don't suppose any bike hire places do it out of London though?

TheOriginalXENA · 26/02/2007 20:43

Oh I saw a fantastic tag a long bike for the older child with or without sn. I think I found it when I googled recumbent bikes. It has 2 wheels making it look like a tricycle, the seat has a back rest and the child can pedal or not. DS1 and DD1 love recumbent bikes

TheOriginalXENA · 26/02/2007 22:33

DO you like it nicm?

OP posts:
nicm · 26/02/2007 22:53

think it looks great. saw something like this in amsterdam too but still not sure how i'd cope here with the hills!! wil be interesting to hear how you get on with it? what ages are the kids you mind /your kids and do you live in an area with cycle lanes?

Nome · 26/02/2007 23:05

Ooh, fab. Someone near us has got one of these - I covet it whenever I see it locked up outside Tesco's. We have a family bike, like this but with a seat on the back as well. Also has a windscreen on the front. With two kids on, it weighs a ton and I'm glad I live in a very flat town!
I'd be interested in knowing how the kangaroo copes with hills.

1500 yorkiegirl. Alot I know but I hoping eventually we will be able to get rid of our 2nd car- I should be able to save that in a year with insurance tax and petrol. So I will gain the money from the sale of the car and depresiation sp?

Fio I just googled special needs tag along as Xena suggested and came up with this - you can buy a back rest as well. We would need to fit pedal straps as well as Ds2 can't keep his feet on the pedals.

However I can't justify it as we have spent a fortune on a trike for Ds2 which he loves but it requires that someone pushes it and he tires quite soon, so we can't go too far. It's a shame that places that do bike hire don't have a few options like this and the bike that Xena has just bought, so we could all go together on a longer ride occasionally without having to shell out a fortune.
