Tripp Trapp Highchair by Stokke - Any good????

I'm looking to buy a wooden highchair for my son 14 months mainly because I want something that's easy to clean and this looks a bit simpler than my current one.

I have a Mamas & Papas Prima Pappa and it's a nightmare to clean.

Can anyone recommend the Tripp Trapp? Is it easy to clean or will it be as bad as my Prima Pappa do you think? Thanks. Chelle

The Tripp Trapp is easy to clean, but I don't do it very often! The seat cover can be machine washed, and the seat and footplate are just flat pieces of wood slotted into the frame.

Cleanability is not the only thing to consider though! The Tripp Trapp can't be folded, and is quite heavy. On the other hand, it will last forever and is very adjustable.

Hi Chelle,
Did you see our review
If you decide you like it you can buy it free of post and packing by using the buy it link from the review page.
Best,
Justine, Carrie and Rachel

We love ours. I like the way it 'grows' with DD and it really fits in to the space. I loved it so much I embroidered her name on to the back cushion...I don't normally get that involved with furniture.

At about that age I bought a wooden highchair that pulls up at the table from IKEA - at £35 I thought it was better value than the Tripp Trapp
Seriously, I think they are worth a look at.

frogs · 21/06/2004 14:58

If he's 14 months, then you can live without the seat cushion, which will probably spend more time in the wash than on the chair anyway.

Otherwise, definitely worth it! They don't seem to be widely available 2nd hand, presumably because most of the people who've bought them since they became widely available (?6 or 7 years ago) are still using them.

Draw your own conclusions...

crumpet · 21/06/2004 15:11

Just to offer another point of view: I thought about buying one but whilst I could see the benefit of it as a high chair, I couldn't picture an older child or adolescent sitting in it, so decided it wouldn't be worth the money for us long term. But plenty of people think differently!

we hgave the tripp trapp but we got it free off social services because my dd is disabled. I really like it (she is 4) and she can climb up onto it herself and is the right height and her feet are supported lovely on it. It is a bit ugly to look at though IMO

suedonim · 21/06/2004 16:47

We love our TrippTrapp which we bought for dd2. 17yo dd1 and I like to sit on it, it's very comfy, even though it's at too high a position for us. Dd2 is rather possessive about it, though, and chucks us off if she spots us on board.

Hulababy · 21/06/2004 17:53

We love our Tripp Trapp and TBH if I had to buy another highchair in the future I would always get this one. Just recommended it to a friend of DHs too.

I don't find it hard to clean at all, especially once you stop using the cushion set. The TT looks good and fits in well in our home. We really weren't keen on the big plastic highchairs at all.

We love it so many different reasons. Could go on forever. LOL!

never takes long for a tripp trapp thread to fill up!
love ours and highly recommend one, but don't buy the pillow thing for the baby - terrible to keep clean - use one of your own or something else to wedge in when your baby is still little

jennifersofia · 21/06/2004 22:10

yup, FAB. V. easy to clean. Also nice to look at! Very stable.

phatcat · 21/06/2004 22:26

another vote for here for the Trip Trap - we're still using the baby set at 14 months - can't recall if you buy the baby cushions and baby bars as 2 separate bits or not - if so you could definitely use your own cushion instead; in fact have a spare cushion lined up as you'll be washing the baby cushions a lot. It's very easy to clean as long as you don't let stuff dry on.

We love our Tripp Trapp chairs and use them for our 5yr old and 2yr old twins (for reading, colouring, jigsaws as well as for eating). I find them very easy to keep clean although I took the cushions and bars off a while ago. My 12yr old stepson wants us to get one for him so I think they will go on being useful for many years!

Piffleoffagus · 22/06/2004 12:59

yes marvellous, love ours to death, we wipe it down with a washcloth after every messy meal and as the wood is smooth it comes stright off, we do not use the cushions anymore.
We do take ours away with us sometimes

Blu · 22/06/2004 13:01

Brilliant, because you can carry on using them until the child is tall enough to sit on a regular chair at the table.

Thomcat · 22/06/2004 13:01

best buy, love it, so does DD.

BosworthBear · 24/06/2004 08:28

My DS is 11 months and also in a Prima Pappa, which I think is a great high chair. It was previously used by his sister until he was born. I then bought a Tripp Trapp for her "her big girls chair" I bought it with a baby set - at 2 she could still use it (more about restraint whilst I got used to juggling 2!) The baby set is off now and I will definetly buy a second one soon for DS. Will probably wait until he is about 18 months because I do like the Primma Pappa, but I agree that cleaning it is a pain!!

Blackduck · 24/06/2004 08:39

No idea how good this is as only seen it on the website, but tchibo are doing a similar type of highchair that converts into a chair for £35 ......

hoxtonchick · 24/06/2004 09:11

I was in Tchibo yesterday, Blackduck, & saw the Tripp-Trapp-esque highchair. It looks really good. And a third of the price...

Bagpuss30 · 24/06/2004 10:47

What about a handy sitt booster seat? I am currently considering this for dd (22 months) as the Prima Pappa we have is becoming a right pain to keep clean! It is cheaper that the TT (at about £50)and goes over an existing chair. You can also buy two different types of cusion for it - deluxe and a thinner wipeable sort.

Blackduck · 24/06/2004 12:44

Hoxtonchixk - thanks for the info - I ordered it at the weekend so I hope it is okay!!

chellybelly · 25/06/2004 19:14

Have ordered one from Tchibo also as only £35.00 bargain - on a budget - can't wait to get it. It's got cushions included as well. Thanks for everyone's tips. Chelle
