Hi, can anyone tell me how you're meant to clean inside an Avent steriliser? I was given one with no instructions nad although I've had it for a few months I've never cleaned it (I hardly use it though- just for bowls and spoons occasionally as I usually just use boiling water) DD is now using a cup and more bowls etc so I'd like to use it a bit more until she's a bit older so how do I do it? I remember reading somewhere on it to use cold water tablets or something (sorry a bit vague) so can anyone advise?
Thanks

you're meant to de-limescale it every four weeks, the steriliser comes with sachets of i think citric acid for the purpose, i'd be wary of using any other descaling product...maybe someone has some spare sachets, i'm sure you must be able to buy them too...hth a bit

hi!! which one have you got? microwave one or steam one? on website it says: (about steam one)De-scale the hot plate in the base of the steriliser from time to time. Use only citric acid, as other proprietary de-scalers can leave harmful residues. Citric acid is available from most chemists (frequency of de-scaling will depend upon the hardness of water in your area).
Use pre-boiled water in the steriliser if you do not want to go to the trouble of de-scaling occasionally.
Clean the main unit by wiping with a damp clean cloth.
also: 1) Do not use bleach or chemical sterilising solutions/tablets in your steam steriliser or on products to be sterilised.

  1. Do not use abrasive, anti-bacterial materials or scourers to clean the steriliser.

  2. Do not use softened water in the steriliser.

microwave one: After each cycle, drain the excess water from the unit and rinse to prevent the build up of limescale.

another place for citric acid is mothercare - very reasonable.

Just put some vinegar in it, leave it for an hour and rinse out with hot water and then put through a cycle empty.
