Should I buy a playhouse - will the boys use it?

We are very lucky in that our new garden is pretty big and there is room for something for the kids in the garden.

I am debating buying a two storey playhouse for the garden. Is just a waste of money, that will hardly get used??

My boys are 5 and 3.

Thanks

In my experience- yes. At the moment we only have a plastic play house and ds (3) loves it. When we sort out the garden we are planning on getting either a 2 story wooden playhouse or a raised single story playhouse with a sandpit underneath.

My friend has a two story playhouse and her kids 9 & 2 love it. When I take ds round there I hardly see him!

We have a shed in the garden that was here when we moved in that has been painted and flooring put in and before DH claimed it as his summer office DS did play in it.

If I was starting this from scratch though I wouldn't by a playhouse but would try to spend the extra and get a summer house type thing that I think would be great as a playhouse when little but as they get older would double up as a great teenage den.

Trampoline

Kaz33, I'm drooling over these on another thread. It could be guest accom AND somewhere to play! (I want someone to buy one so I can vicariously enjoy it!)

misdee · 18/02/2007 09:14

oh www they are wonderful.

Kaz33 · 18/02/2007 09:18

Wow, they are amazing. We don't have any guest accodomation.

However, we couldn't get them into the garden as we have no side access and we live on the side of a hill so very little is flat

Its a thought though, get a garden room that could be a guest room, but mostly is a playroom. I know you don't need planning consent for a garden office, what about a garden bedroom??

Air lift it in? LOOK ---> one refitted as an office in the garden No idea about planning permission but I think if you have a large garden and no spare room then it would be a fab idea.

WideWebWitch · 18/02/2007 09:22

I meant something that doubled as a spare room would be a great idea. You could easily get a bit of the garden carved out to make a flat enough surface.

look here

here!

That garden escape sounds wonderful, they can make it with electricity and plumbing, wow, it could be amazing.

I know you were thinking about popping down to ELC and buying a wendy house but no, I think you should splash out £20k on a whole extra room

Kaz33 · 18/02/2007 12:37

You and DH would get along great, just persuaded him that maybe we should wait a year or two before we have the fabby extension and maybe get a new bathroom instead.

We have the space, 100ft long garden.... hhmmmmm
