Keeping your whites white

My DD's school tops just look ratty and horrid.

They are white cotton tops with a red logo.

All the collars and the front panel bits with the buttons are all stained with god knows what. She comes homw every day with some sort of orange type stain, look like spag bol sause or foundation. It's neither she has a packed lunch and is 5 so not yet in makeup!

How can I get them to be dazzling white again with out taking the red out of the threaded logo on the top?

Ariel!

Never use anything else, although sometimes use Oxyplus (or something like that - a stain remover).

If they do not come clean after that, they are binned.

Now given up buying school polo shirts (£9 for one with school logo which is covered by the school sweatshirt or cardigan).

Buy from my boyfriend (same make, just no school badge) and give in and buy 3 for the summer when the school badge is on show.

I wash school polo shirts on 60 and blast the numerous lovely stains with that pink spray from Vanish. But we don't have an embroidered logo to trash, and I know how red runs...
I'd be tempted to take bumblelion's tip, except that I assume your dd is removing her cardy/sweatshirt even in winter, the better to adorn her polo shirt...

Agree that Ariel works way better than Persil IME - we do use non-Bio

SecondhandRose · 16/02/2007 20:53

Daz - probably full of bleach.

The new Vanish oxyaction in wash powder for whites gets my ds' shirts sparkling!!
Gets out paints, pens and god knows what else.

TeeCee · 16/02/2007 21:04

I spayed the stains with Shout, used Persil, put a vanish thing in as well and washed on a 40, not the extra care wash, stains still there but not quite as bad but they don't look beutifully white.

so, will buy some ariel tomorrow and get soem of that Vanish ppray and the in wash stuff, and maybe brave a 60 wash on half the shirts and see how I go.

She looks like a raggamuffin anyway by the time she has spent a day at school. God knows what happens in there but she goes in with hair in neat plaits and comes out with a birds nest and covered in stains with a grubby face! LOL!

Does Ariel really make a difference then?
I use Persil liquid which is so/so for whites, but am willing to try Ariel if it's any good. Is it biological or something?

JanH · 16/02/2007 21:20

Ariel is defo better - Which said so and I agree (although they tested bios, and I use non-bios, but in IME Ariel is better than both Persil and own brands) (this is tablets by the way)

Bellie · 16/02/2007 21:22

napisan in every wash works wonders.
you can put on stains for a bit of a soak prior to washing and then put more in the powder tray.
Not tried on school tops yet as dd is only 2.4 but works well on grass/mud/carrot/kiwi on her white tops!!

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:53

Ariel non bio is definitely better than either Persil or Fairy non bio
Whether this is connected to extreme hardness of water in London I don't know...

Bugsy2 · 19/02/2007 13:10

For some reason I find the vanish soap bar is more effective than the spray. Don't know why this is! A soak in cold water with the vanish soap well worked in works well for me. Although, there is a certain type of orangey stain that has a lurking power second to none!
