Portable DAB radio, anyone got one?

As dh is staying away for work now and is miserable, I thought I might try to buy him a DAB radio so he can listen to things like BBC 7 while he's away (he hates football, and all the pubs near him are just showing football every night).

I need one that will get reception well (FM as well as DAB), runs from mains as well as batteries, stereo, very portable, will plug into speakers not just earphones. As inexpensive as poss (I'm planning about £100).

YOu could try here

Pure Evoke 1 is what Which recommended I think, Easy.

The reception depends entirely on where you are and how good the signal is but my cousin has this one and the sound is fantastic on the ones it does get well.

It is stereo but only one speaker - wot? - you can get an extra speaker apparently! Or down the page is the Evoke 2 with 2 speakers but that's £150. (Also the Tempus, which has alarm settings and you can plug in an MP3 recorder or something, too technical for me!)

Also Evoke 1 is mains only but the 2 is battery (6xC)

(wouldn't it be good if I did all my research and then posted!)

Problem is that digital uses up lots of power, so batteries don't last long at all. The Pure Evoke 2 has lots of good reviews though. I would go for something small, but mains operated, if portability is an issue. John Lewis have a good selection.

Thanx all. I had been researching the websites, and seen the models you've mentioned. I was really looking for actual recommendations from someone who actually had one.

The Pure Evoke 2 is very good - got it for dh for Christmas. It does eat the batteries though (and then the sound deteriorates), so we do try to use it on mains power most of the time(even out in the garden, on the extension lead!).

It looks good too!

I think it was £147 - had to get it from John Lewis, which was slightly more expensive, as empiredirect let me down and after weeks of prmosing, couldn't promise to get it to me in time for Christmas.

we've got the pure evoke 1, it's lovely. you'd have to check for reception coverage though as it's patchy around the country
