i have lily white legs as they just dont seem to tan at all. am going away next week and dont fancy flashing my legs if they reflect the sun. can anyone recommend some good, not too pricey, fake tan creams which i can get in the local high street. cheers

Im swear by Ecotan (you an buy it from House of Fraser). It is a clear spray on liquid - a quick spritz, 30 secs to dry and off you go. Also only costs around £12-15 for a big bottle that lasts me a good couple of months during the summer.

Lovely, non orangy, non streaky natural colour which you can make darker if you want by repeating the application.

I'm naturally very very pale - almost blue white! I use St Tropez - one small bottle lasts me the summer - I don't use a lot, just enough to take me up to a normal colour and I think it looks convincing. Its not the cheapest on the market but IMO its worth the extra. its very easy to use because you can see it as you apply it, but it never seems to streak at all. Youre "supposed to" use their own brand exfoliator an moisturiser before you se the tan but I never have - St Ives scrub and a glug of olive oil do the trick for me

L'Oreal is good, Body Shop is not bad

Misdee, which ever one you get, get a tanning mit from M&S to put it on with.
Apparently they are fab (about 4 quid i think).
My mom has one and reckons her tan looks less fake using this.
I tried to get one but they were sold out. The cashier said they had been flying off the shelves.

will look out for one of those nutty. i'm fed up with my lilly white legs, they are almost blue white too. when i was a kid i used to tan easily but the heat never bothered me much (does it when you're kids tho??) but now i dont get out in the sun much but long to wear skirts more but hate the whiteness of my legs.

Me too! I've never come across a fake tan that looks convincing on me. Or maybe I'm just applying it wrong? Do you use a sponge, or your hands, or wot? And how long do they last for? I don't want a fake tan that will just come off in the shower the next day, but then again I don't want to blow £14 on a bottle either.

I use Clarins Auto Bronzant. It's easy to apply (creamy formulation in a big tube) and lasts around 3/4 days on me (I'm a keen exfoliator!). Not streaky or too dark. I would guess at the tube doing around 15-20 applications (leg and arm).

P.S. I exfoliate the skin well, moisturise it to within an inch of its life and then rub into my skin with my hands. 30 mins to 'set' and get dressed and go.

Hiya misdee, boots soltan do a fake tan thats tinted "Self tan shimmering lotion - instant golden tint" so you can see where youre putting it - less chance of it being patchy. They also have the choice of colour i.e. i bought the light/medium one. It produces a very light tan so you dont look like you've been 'tangoed' I too verge on bluey white - especially my legs for some reason. Its even safe to put it on your face - might be wise to moisturise it first though and only put a bit of fake tan on. I think its about £8, though couldn't find it at the weekend when i was shopping. I bought their no7 tinted tan instead but i haven't tried it yet, that was £9, so i'll let you know the results (it looks very brown in the bottle )

Exfoliating is a good idea too, Asda do a pair of exfoliating gloves for about £1.99 i think, mine have lasted well over 6 months and are still going strong.

Another tip is to start applying a week before you go, say do it one day, leave it a couple of days, exfoliate gently, then do it again.

Listen to me, i sound like i know it all. I dont! its just what works for me.

I agree that the tinted self tans are the best, it is easy to see where they go. Most of them recommend not moisturising first as it makes the tan dry quicker but IMO moisturise, moisturise and just leave a bit longer for it to set.
Also make sure to put a little on your arms as well so that you don't just have brown legs and not arms.

lou33 · 16/06/2004 13:40

I used to like the No7 tinted mousse, is that still on sale?

Beccarollover · 16/06/2004 13:41

St Tropez or Fake Bake

lou33 · 16/06/2004 13:44

I like the sound of Fake Bake Becca, have you used it? Easy to do, looks good etc?
