just about to have another baby, and want to buy a little light for his/her room which is sooooo light it just about allows me to see what i'm doing (ie change nappy, feed into mouth and not nostril) but not too bright it will wake the both of us up. with ds i had an angle poise lamp which i shone into the corner, but never felt very satisfied with that, was thinking about one of those plug in jobs but are they just sensor driven, ie you can't just switch them on and off? sorry if i sound potty. (i am).

Can't you put on very dim hall/landing lamp and make do??!! Congratulations BTW!

mothercare do a dawn to dusk light £8. We use it on the landing and with the door in just the right angle it gives just the right amount of light!!! Also is good for 5 yo DD who is scared of the dark!! The little night lights were not quite bright enough for me!! Also available are 10W light bulbs that you could use in the main light, even better I suppose if you combine it with a dimmer switch - make sure you get a good one as the cheap ones have an annoying hum/buzzzzz. I think that it will be just a case of playing around with this lot until you get the set up right for you! Good luck

thanks! well, could do , but ds is very light sleeper and would rather he didn't get used to a light on. (is that a bit mad?)

do you think that having a nigth light on landing will make ds more relaxed and inclined to go back to sleep in night if/when wakes? if so think the landing light idea is a good one. is the dusk til dawn jobbie too bright just to put on when baby wakes? (ie put it in the nursery and not on landing?)

If it's only dim he won't know it's on will he?

suedonim · 13/06/2004 22:36

We used an ordinary table lamp with an 8watt or 15 watt bulb in (they are sold as night-lights sometimes). That gives enough light to see by, but it isn't disturbing. Oh, and it's cheap!!Hth.

poppyseed · 13/06/2004 22:38

sorry - think that we cross posted! I thought that the dawn to dusk was perhaps a little bright for us to put it in the nursery, yes, but I suppose it depends on where your plug is and how big the room is!

pS I found the night light 10W bulbs a devil to find but Tesco sell them now and I know Philips make some that they sell too, for about £3 for 2.

madgirl · 13/06/2004 22:43

right thanks all, will go on hunt for very low wattage bulb and if it doesnt' work will get m/care one.

Is the dawn 'til dusk light meant to give a low light all night? If so, there has been research to indicate that this increases chances of being shortsighted. The study concluded best to sleep with no light at all.

I bought an Auto Fade Light from JoJo Maman Bebe and it has been FANTASTIC. You can have it on really low and it is really easy to adjust. It also has a time-delayed fading mechanism. It was £20 but well worth it. Great for night time feeds too.

I had a sunrise natural light alarm clock which I've put in DS2's room and it's been great. DS1 just has a dimmer switch on the main light - would that do?
