GAP clothes

I'm totally frustrated with GAP. Brought dd a lovely dress from there 2 weeks ago. Totally love the dress and thought it was reasonably priced at £19:50. Been into Gap today and the same bloody dress is in the sale at £7:99. God only knows what their mark up on clothing is!!!!

Aw, woodpops, I do that kind of thing too...is it any comfort to think that you were happy with it at £19.50 and if you hadn't been in today you still would be?

Gem13 · 12/06/2004 21:29

If you have your receipt woodpops I think they will refund you the difference.

Think they will do it up to a month between buying the item and it going on sale.

Hulababy · 12/06/2004 21:30

Gap is always doing this sadly. I nearly had the same problem - got DD a top yesterday from GAP sale for £7, DH almost bought it last week full price. Glad he decided to be tight

If you have a reciept GAP do a 14 day price adjustment think. Got a reciept from something I bought today which says:

"We offer a one time price adjustment when an original sales receipt is presented within 14 days after the date of purchase. We reserve the right to withhold from reselling returned merchandise."

So, not sure if that is useful or not, but if you have your receipt you may be able to query it.

Buy one in next summers size!

nutcracker · 12/06/2004 21:36

Oh it's so annoying isn't it.

Have to say though that with Gap I never ever buy anything full price as it is always only a matter of a couple of weeks before they start reducing them. Obviously though you sometimes then run the risk of not getting the size you want.

I remember once hanging on for a pair of jeans that i wanted for Dd1. I got them for 6.99 in the end.
I have figured out that tops usually always end up going right down to 3.99 and trousers to 6.99. Once they hit that price i snap them up.

My local Gap has closed though now and i do miss a bit of bargain hunting

woodpops · 12/06/2004 21:36

I must admit I did consider buying it in a bigger size for next year!!!!! But ended up buying several other items. In the sale might I add. I think the girls clothes in there are lovely this summer but the boys stuff looks like it's been through several jumble sales before reaching the store!!!!

Ooh, do they really do that? (I hardly ever shop at Gap so don't know these things). Are they always reducing prices then? Other shops won't give you a refund like that, will they? Worth checking prices every time you go in!

Hulababy · 12/06/2004 21:38

I am the same now nutcracker. Only think I buy full price for Dd in GAP is their Ponchos (as never in sale here). Everything else is sale only. GAP is only 5 minute walk so check in there regularly to see what they have.

I remember Dh got DD's first outfit from GAP when she'd just been born - it was beautiful, dress, pants, shoes, hat, cardi. Must have cost a fortune!

Janh · 12/06/2004 21:41

SHOES?????

Hulababy · 12/06/2004 21:42

Well, cotton, soft things. She wore them about twice - for photos!!! But they matched the outfit and DH fell for the sales assistants patter - being the new doting daddy of his baby girl and all that.

nutcracker · 12/06/2004 21:49

The staff in my old local Gap, must of thought i was a bit barmy and very tight, as i just used to go in, check each thing i was waiting for them to reduce and then go straight out again if it wasn't reduced enough

SofiaAmes · 13/06/2004 00:07

nutcracker, I do the same. In fact I ask the sales assistants (or demand to see the manager if they don't know) when things are going on sale so I don't have to waste my time walking down there on my lunch hour.

In the usa you can definitely get the difference back if things go on sale or get reduced further after you've bought them.

clary · 13/06/2004 00:47

Nutcrackr I think you must be me! I used to do that, buy things for next year as well. My local Gap h/ever has also closed (sniff), didn't do enough business, not for want of me trying!

Chandra · 13/06/2004 00:52

I do the same, I check the things and wait until they get reduced (or buy things I like for when DS gets older).

Long time ago somebody posted in another thread that once GAP has put something in offer they will keep reducing it evry week, she even mentioned which day they relabel the clothes but I don't remember when was it.

LIZS · 13/06/2004 09:28

We only get to shop in Gap a few times a year but have only rarely bought at full price. When dh worked in London when ds was small he'd pop along every week as the main reason for the sale racks is to keep stock turnover fast so things are reduced within weks of arrival. Better to sell at reduced margin than have stock just sitting there and it entices people to the stores where they buy full price stuff too.

BooMama · 18/06/2004 18:18

If you are outside of the 14 day "price adjustment" period you could buy the item in the same size again then come back the next day and return it (having peeled off or removed the sale price tag) with the ORIGINAL EXPENSIVE RECEIPT!!!! Probably very naughty and frowned upon...

Piffleoffagus · 18/06/2004 18:27

Gap always do this, I now only ever buy reduced stuff, it's all you can bloody afford anyway... its one of the few brands that fit dd, so its NECESSARY however unethical their 3rd world sweatshops are...

webmum · 19/06/2004 15:11

Well I bought a dress once for my niece and it ahd been slightly reduced, then I had toe xchange it and get a bigger size, in the meantime it had been reduced further and I was refunded the difference!!!!

I was so pleased...I'm sure you cna find a way of getting your money back!

I never ever buy anything at full price at GAP, they reduce prices at least once a month, and usually even before than the season started!

SecondhandRose · 19/06/2004 16:20

I bought some things for DD in the US, navy trousers and matching t-shirt and coral shorts and jacket. All massively reduced to less than $9.99 each at Easter. I went in there over here recently and the same things, the trousers I remember specifically were still £28. I ran!

Paula71 · 19/06/2004 21:32

Well I go to the outlet centre in Livingston Macarthur Glen Centre. The prices there are, for me, affordable and once we got DH a whole pile of lovely shirts for the unbelievable price of £1.99 each!

After that I couldn't justify buying full price! I am a budget queen or just having to be really tight-fisted.
