I brought one of these for Ds. I got size 18-24 mths as he was nearly 18mths and it fitted fine so i thought no more about it, took all tags off chucked away receipt e.t.c.

6 weeks (and not that many washes) on the little gold star abive the badge on the top has completly come off and the umbro dimond logo on the shorts is hanging off too.

I brought it from Sports Soccer so Dp took it all back there today to see if we could get it changed for the 2-3 one (the badges on those are embroidered on).
Anyway they didn't want to know, which i expected really as i hadn't any proof that i brought it there. They said if i had left the tags on (which i would do obviously whilst he's wearing it) then they would have swapped it.
I have emailed Umbro complaining but don't really expect a response.
The only proof i have, is my online bank statement that shows that i purchased something from Sports Soccer for 18 quid with my debit card.
Trouble is, it doesn't say what it was so do you think they'd accept it as proof ???

They should accept the statement as proof. You might have to present it in person to the manager and see where that gets you but goods sound faulty. The only thing they might argue is whether it has been washed according to instructions.

I've used a bank statement before as proof of purchase and the store were fine. Took the item back no problem. Give it a go, like LIZS said the item does sound faulty. If you don't get anywhere with that ask to see the manager and make a bit of a scene. That always seems to work.

Agree with Liz, the statement is good enough (I mean I know she knows more about it than I do but have defo seen several times in newspapers that you don't have to have the receipt, a statement will do....a good reason not to use cash!)

We had a pair of football socks from Sport Soccer which had gone straight into big holes (NB Umbro socks are far better quality than Nike, not that you have a choice if you buy a particular strip), and they would have changed those, only unknown to me DS2 had snuck them back out of the bag (which lay around the house for ages) and worn them too often for me to say "look, he only wore them once!" - although in fact I did say that, and then was mortified when they emerged from the bag with sweaty feet!

Go back in and stand your ground, nutty!

nutcracker · 12/06/2004 21:27

O.k i'll try that then.
Do you think it would be reasonable to ask if i can swap it for the larger shirt (shirt only, not kit) as this is far better quality as the badge and everthing is embroidered on. It would still be an o.k fit on Ds too.

Or shall i just ask for a credit note and then go buy what i like ??

Sorry, also meant to say ...........

The statement will of been printed off from my online banking site, does that metter ??

I thought maybe they would say that it had to be an original statement that the bank send you.

Yes, get the credit note, much simpler in the long run!

Janh · 12/06/2004 21:31

Online statement should be fine, and if you don't get a printed one by post anyway what else can you do?

woodpops · 12/06/2004 21:33

I'd ask for the larger shirt. Especially if it's better quailty. Just say you don't want the same thing happening again with the smaller shirt so could you have the larger one as the badge is embroidered. Good luck
