Want to get DD a kitchen

Branster · 10/06/2004 12:00

DD loves playing with kitchens when there is one available (M&T groups, play areas etc). I want to buy her own kitchen but don't know wich one. It needs to have some drawers or cupboard doors that open and she can put stuff in there, hob, oven, tap etc. Plastic is cheaper than wooden ones but only want to spend betewwn £20-£50. Any suggestions? Please!

We bought ours second hand for £15!!! (Cheapskates!) It's a Little Tikes and was very clean and came with loads of extras!! Our DD loved it and now we've passed it to our DS and it's still going strong!! I think that they do take a lot of room up so my advice is to think about the space you have available and perhaps to look for those models that have a folding section on them. Happy shopping!!

Flip · 10/06/2004 12:25

Have you looked on ebay. I've just done a search on little tikes kitchen and quite a few came back. You could look for one in your area or try Loot.

Branster · 10/06/2004 12:27

Thank you poppyseed. I've been looking at all the local NCT sales and local paers, charity shops, etc all this second hand places but couldn't fine anything suitable. Space is not ncessarly a problem, the price would be though (when dh has to pay for it and it is a big item, it sounds better if it's not expensive as well )
I found two on this site someone posted here a few days ago (a brilliant site by the way!) but can't decide which one has drawers and opening doors etc, the pictures are not v clear. maybe someone here owns one of them and can give some feed-back?!
this one and this one

What about this at ELC

I'm sure there's some mumsnetters what have discount codes.

Branster · 10/06/2004 12:35

Thanks Flip. I've just had a look at the ELC one. The only problem is it hasn't got drawers or cupboard doors, and DD really likes those sort of features, so although it's a v good kitchen, it wouldn't be ideal for her. And I got so excited when i looked at the link!!

this one is PERFECT!! Dd played with one like this onece and i couldn't get her away from it. i could never justify paying that much for a kitchen . there's another one in there just the same at £31 currently but it's sure to go over £100 by the end of the auction. anyway, is out of the question at this price.

We have this one which has doors ,knobs and sounds. It is quite compact so doesn't take up loads of space but has 2 sides so more than one child can play. Think we got it for a bit less than that particular ad though.

hana · 10/06/2004 16:15

our dd has the fisher price fun folding kitchen - not sure who stocks it (we were sent it as a replacement for a faulty one) It does fold up, has fridge, cooker, buttons with sounds and comes with pots, pans, etc etc. Try toysrus maybe? good luck. dd loves hers!

sponge · 10/06/2004 16:16

Argos have a couple on their site which seem to have doors at least (no drawers) and are under £30.

jampot · 10/06/2004 16:19

someone posted this the other day

nutcracker · 10/06/2004 16:35

That website is brilliant Jampot, loads of good stuff on there at great prices.
I've added it to my favourites.

Hulababy · 11/06/2004 08:58

We got 2yo Dd this one for her birthday. Got is reduced to £50 from Toy World.

Really good as you can seperate the two bits if you want too, table in middle gives playing room for preparing and plating up meals Has cooker, hob with sounds, dishwasher, sink, and lots of storage cupbards at sides. Came with accessories like utensils, pans and some food (some were even smelly ones to represent what they were)!

DD spends hours each week playing with this.

Tommy · 11/06/2004 09:18

Poppyseed - cheaperskates than you - ours is a handmedown and pretty scruffy but DS1 loves it! Branster, maybe look in the paper for a second hand one?

Branster · 11/06/2004 15:28

Hulababy thanks a lot for the link. They have great toys there. Don't deliver to UK though. Hmmm. What is Toy World? Do they have a website?

Thank you for all your messages. I'll go through all of them tonight and post back.

Last night i found the one from ebay on various websites. I really like it, but £115 was the cheapest i could find. Dh would never pay for it.
here it is

i'm yet to find the little tikes kitchen on the web to see how it looks. i'll try tonight if i have time. thanks poppyseed!

hana, thanks for your help. i've seen the fisher price kitchen on ebay and it does look good, i have to say and it does all sorts of things.

thanks sponge. i always forget about argos. good prices. i preffered the yellow one, it looks a bit different.

jampot, that is a great link. that is what got me proactive on the matter. still can't decide between those two from the site (the ones i posted links to at the beginning)

LIZS thank you for the info. It looks really smart this kitchen, i'm just a bit concerned it hasn't got all those storages dd loves so much.

You have all been so helpful. Thank you very much. The more i look, the more confused i get . at least i have some specifics that i want so it should be easier to choose. i wish i hadn't seen the lifestyle dream kitchen for sale .it's got all dd would play with and i'm not spending more than £50 on any kitchen even if it real food for us.

tommy i'll keep an eye on the local papers, the last week there were only buggies and baby stuff for sale.

Toy World stores are often at the retail outlet places. You now, the big out of town outdoor shopping centres. Have a lot of the discount Next/Gap/M&S types places there too.

Hulababy, thanks for the info. we've never been to one of this retail villages but i think we'll plan a trip . i think the nearest one to us is somewhere near oxford. but it does sound like a v good place to shop for clothes too.

bloss, blimey you're on the internet v early for a sat morning (5.18AM!!!!). thank you for your message. it does seem that these kitchens are a great toy for all the kids i know of having one. i've decided to save up the £115 and get that dream kitchen i posted about earlier for dd's 3rd birthday (have 6 months to do that so it seems realistic) BUT i'll still be looking for a 2nd hand kitchen based on all the info given here and if i find a reasonable one i'll get that.

Many thanks everyone!
