Hoover - Henry or Miele/Bosh - which is best

car25 · 02/02/2007 15:23

Looking for a new hoover with great suction, have horrible carpets (in rented accomm) that my hair, sock fluff, bits of cotton etc stick too and my current hoover wont get them up.

Dont mind cylinder or upright, just want the best suction. (Are any cylinder hoovers bagless?)

Any recommendations?

My cleaner swears that Miele is the best make and has infact just persuaded me to buy one. Seems good so far (one week on). I got a Cat & Dog one despite not having any pets because I have thick hair which ends up everywhere. I was amazed that 15 minutes spent googling suppliers showed such a difference in prices, so well worth shopping online.

wanderingstar · 02/02/2007 15:51

Ooh this could have been me a couple of weeks ago. I bought a Miele Revolution which worked fabulously for... 15 days. Then the motor died . I have a Miele dishwasher and washing machine which are great. Maybe I was unlucky.

I resisted the urge (having got my refund) to buy another Miele. Have just ordered a henry on the internat and am waiting for it to arrive.

Piffle · 02/02/2007 15:53

Our miele (Revolution 2200) is the dogs bollocks
we had top dyson before this and it knocks spots off it.

Piffle · 02/02/2007 15:54

wandering star there is/was a recall on the miele revolution, an electrical fault which occurs on standby mode
ours has been upgraded and we got loads of free bags, I wonder if yours was affected by this at all?

wanderingstar · 02/02/2007 16:09

Piffle the shop didn't mention a recall to me and I didn't see any of those usual signs at the till either. Maybe mine was affected then ? A shame because it seemed to be going great guns !

flutterbee · 02/02/2007 16:10

The Henry is the best by a mile all the proffesional cleaning companies use them.

Go and buy one now!!

holidaymum · 02/02/2007 16:19

mielle by far! I think people use Henry's out of habit now! The hepa filter mielle is ace for us, its reduces asthma symptoms and deals with 2 very fluffy cats fantastically.

Muddle · 02/02/2007 17:24

Here is the info on the Miele Revolution recall. HTH.

Cappuccino · 02/02/2007 17:26

henrys are fab

we bought one cos every cleaner I have ever seen in an office I worked in had one; and they know what they're doing

last cleaner raved about them

love mine

Cappuccino · 02/02/2007 17:26

we got the extra non-asthma henry

ProfYaffle · 02/02/2007 17:33

I've got a Miele, it's fab. They scored highly on the Which? hoover report iirc.

car25 · 02/02/2007 19:06

Thanks for all these, mmmm fairly even between them.

Is the Henry very effective then, it is only 1200 watts compared to the Miele that is 2200.

I've got a cylinder Miele & it's v. powerful. Had a Dyson which was great for 1 wk then rubbish for 4 years, but the Miele's still as good 2 months on. I think (?) builders/contractors use Henrys because they pick up big lumps (concrete, ..) but don't think they're as good with dust.

Gingerbear · 03/02/2007 09:34

We have a hairy dog, a 4 yr old DD and a miele.

Agree with Piffle tis the dogs bolleaux.
In fact, I am wondering where mutts disappeared to....

chez33 · 04/02/2007 10:28

No contest - DYSON - simply amazing.

Cappuccino · 04/02/2007 14:30

I don't think you need millions of watts, think that's a boy thing

best thing about my henry is the fact you can lug it about easily

IS a cat and dog miele okay for allergy sufferers or do you really need the solution one even though we have dogs but no carpet for the dogs?

Skyler · 04/02/2007 14:46

I have an old Dyson that is good but I have heard the newer ones aren't so great. I bought a Henry for the Nursery where I worked and tried it out at home before lugging it into work. It was good but didn't cope that well with dog hairs IMO. Actually I was trying to clean the brushes with my Dyson when I realised I had dog hairs on the 'new' hoover (and then was kicking myself worrying about allergies and taking the hairs into the nursery etc etc arrghh.)
Anyway it was great in the nursery and I agree that the Wattage makes no difference at all. I read a review agreeing it was a bit misleading.
The Miele is supposed to be great though and I would get a Miele if the Dyson dies as I am an upright girl at heart.

chez33 · 04/02/2007 20:09

How anyone can utter the words Dyson and 'utter rubbish' in the same sentence is beyond me - explanation please?
I have 3 cats and until recently a dog and my (upright) Dyson makes our carpets look brand new every time we hoover, to empty it you simply pull a trigger, it's the best £250 ever spent in my opinion. I know Miele is an exceptional brand but when it comes to hoovers I really think Dyson has cracked it!
All my friends have one and think the same!

Whoooosh · 04/02/2007 20:17

SEBO SEBO SEBO
Never been happier and have tried most of them-nothing will part me from my Sebo.

80sMum · 04/02/2007 20:28

IMO, Dyson makes the best uprights, so are best for carpet. Miele have the best cylinders with the strongest suction and are also very reliable. Dyson's reliablity has been poor until recently but they've upped their game now. Sebo is pretty good; very reliable and nice retro styling - but not quite up to the standard of the Dyson or Miele in terms of performance. The Henry's performance doesn't even come close to the others mentioned. Cleaning companies use them for 3 reasons; they're cheap, robust and virtually indescructible.
Depends what your requirements are as to which one you pick.

car25 · 04/02/2007 22:08

Thanks for all replies. I have bitten the bullet and ordered a Miele cat & dog, hope its great (can't be any worse than my last one anyway!).
