Pram/Buggy/Pushchair addicts HELP? Did you have double/twin pushchair?

Did you have double buggy, pram, pushchair? What was the age gap between your little one and newborn? Im due in August, when dd will be 28m. Although she is good walker, we still use our 3Wheeler when we out and about. And what is the best double one you had? Every little advice appreciated. Thnx

i have had three double pushchairs.

there is 2.5years between all of mine.

when dd1+2 were needing it i had a big mothercare tandem.

for dd2+3 a phil and teds (wonderful) but sold it too soon, so went for a urban detour double about 4months later. which is great but very wide.

LITTLELOLLI · 01/02/2007 21:26

16 months between mine, i had a kidzkargo side by side first was too wide to fit thru my front door, then i had a marco sky was good, then I had just a cheapy century double for summer, then lastly a phil and teds and wish i bought this first its fantastic! My sons 4 soon so he doesnt use it much any more but Im looking after my neice full time so use it for her

divamumdiva · 01/02/2007 21:26

I'm not really an addict but have had a couple of double pushchairs between three kids so will do my best to advise. The first one we had was a tandem one made by cosatto which we used with ds1 and dd (22 month gap). It was large and heavy and tbh when I used the car I reverted to using a sling and maclaren single buggy for the first 6 months or so. The tandem was good for walking into town but too heavy for lifting in and out of the car all the time. My second has been a Phil and Ted's E3 which by comparison to the first, is superb. We didn't really need a double when ds2 came along as dd was 2 yrs 10 months but the detachable toddler seat on the E3 was invaluble for getting to school on time with all three children first thing in the morning . It takes up no more room than a normal single and we have carried on using it as a single now that the toddler seat is no longer needed. My only complaint with it is that it doesn't lock when folded for the boot of the car but if you are careful then it isn't a massive problem. HTH

misdee · 01/02/2007 21:32

go for the gecko!!

make me an offer.

you can add a buggy board to it i think.

divamumdiva · 02/02/2007 11:31

untill what age did your LO`s needed pushchair? im thinking about buggy board on my 3 wheeler with carrycot. but im not quite sure she will then want to sit in the pushchair. may be p&t is the better idea. you can still use it for single child dont you?
misdee, probably leave gecko at the moment, got to think about it, i have long way to go,too
thnx

19m between my oldest two, so after much consideration we bought a phil and ted and love it. Only prob is that I've recently had twins and it's not suitable for them. Boughty a Maclaren Twin Rally but it's so big I struggle in and out of the nursery gates and it has handles instead of a bar which is a nuisance to use when one DC wants to hold hands.

Now about to try out a Jane Powertwin till they are old enough for the P&T.

clayre · 02/02/2007 15:06

26 months between mine, i got a graco tandem one and it was big and heavy and only used it half a dozen times i barley fitted in the car, dd was a good walker so if we did use it she walked and shopping went in her seat, i wouldn't go there!

nappyaddict · 02/02/2007 15:17

id go for the mutsy with a duo seat.

divamumdiva · 02/02/2007 16:55

t6hnx nappyaddict, mutsy with duo seat seems good idea. does it mean you can still use it with single seat unit?

Another vote for Phil and Ted - ps bagpuss, there a strap at the front which you use to lock it when it's folded up. It loops around the frame and there's a press-stud to hold it in place

hana · 02/02/2007 17:17

have a powertwin - 21 m gap
few probs with the front wheel but had it fixed and has been fine
looks great and quite narrow too, isn't that much bigger than a single
but pricey i thkn for what it is
we also used a sling and single buggy for first 6/8 weeks, much easier that way

Nemo2007 · 02/02/2007 17:20

Diva ds was 26mths when DD1 was born. We got a marco sky for the big trips out but after a couple of months I made DS walk more. I would just use a sling to be honest if your DD is already a good walker. Do expect some tears though about the baby being in the pram as we get it even now with both the girls being in the pram Ds is 3.3yrs and thinks it is unfair even though he has not been in a pram for over 9mths. The double I have at the min is a toys r us own one, nice pram, light and cheap..lol

sockmonkey · 02/02/2007 17:24

i got a Graco long double (one seat in front of the other) from Toys R Us. there are 2 years between my boys.
We got it cos you could plug the car seat straight in to the back seat, so we didn't have to faff about getting baby out of his seat and into the pram if he was asleep.

The only thing to watch out for is if it fits in your boot, as it is still quite long even folded.

(have always fansied one of those phil & ted prams though... they looks dinky in comparison)

mamalocco · 02/02/2007 17:40

I have a 28m gap between 1 & 2 and had an urban detour double and loved it. So easy to push, well balanced. But as misdee said its very wide. Gave it to a friend who used to have to take one wheel off to get it through her front door. Used it until DD1 was about 3. She was a good walker but liked sitting next to her brother .

divamumdiva · 02/02/2007 18:51

nemo, good idea about sling or baby carier, but dd never liked being in the sling, i had wilkinet one, i quite liked it but not dd, she used to cry till she gets out of it, it was funny she was only 3wk old, but she seemed like get me out of here.
i must check all the old threads,

mamalocco, thats exact age gap will be between our two, i think ill go for double or twin till she is 3 yrs. i quite liked the look of mutsy with duo seat.

hana, im too like jane pushchairs, ppl seem to think they are pricey but nt good. i have 3 wheeler, and its great. probably use sling and or buggy board on my jane couple of weeks, too

thnx girls

we have a phil & teds and can't praise it highly enough. our age gap is 19 months.
TBH i think you'll get away without a double buggy. Get a sling for the baby, by the time they are out of that your DD will be 31m and will be fine on a buggyboard or would love a scooter!

My DD1 is almost 3 and rarely goes in the buggy for the last few months. Thank goodness i didn't buy a side by side, i'd be furious pushing it along with just one baby in. At least with the P&T you just take off the second seat, although i tend to leave it attached so she can get in if she wants a rest or it is also fantastic to hold a lot of shopping.

amidaiwish · 02/02/2007 18:58

piximon, have you seen the P&T twin? here

nappyaddict · 03/02/2007 01:56

diva yes you can use it with a single seat unit. means that instead of having a double and also needing 2 singles for when dc aren't together you have one double which can be used as a single and another single. you can get an insert thing so newborns can go in it.

divamumdiva · 03/02/2007 11:53

nappyaddict i never seen one. i will check if any nursery shops near us sell one, and will have good look, and test drive.
if buggy board fits it seems great pushchair; like dd want sit or stand on buggyboard. i saw go kart seat on ebay, which very quite for the young toddlers. hopefully next summer. thnx for the recommendation.

another vote for phil and Teds here

its the best double IMO

though if you never ever have to negotiate door ways etc then a mountain buggy double is superb as well!

buggies4less · 03/02/2007 22:38

hi, i am a phil and teds retailer, if you would like any information on products or price please contact me, i can do some great deals.
you can email [email protected] or look at our ebay buggies4less is my user id.

nappyaddict · 04/02/2007 01:45

diva if you go on the babystyle website there is a list of stockists for diff areas.

tinytotmummy · 04/02/2007 11:29

15mths between my two, and we used a phil and teds for the first year and also a Maclaren twin. Phil and teds was great, until neither wanted to sit in the back. then used a combi of Maclaren twin, single pushchair and backpack and have finally managed to ditch the double now ds is 3.4 and he uses a buggyboard on our mountain buggy.

divamumdiva · 04/02/2007 21:25

p&t owners, did you have it when your baby was born or while after. i think nwborn goes the bottom seat, ist it?
