Does someone (I think it was a childminder) have one? What make is it and where can you get one?

i like this one!

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:02

Wow, that one's cool. The Dutch really know how to bike with kids.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:03

And the seats go up to 8 years old. All the ones we have go only to 40lbs, which is 5 or so. Yes, at 5, DS1 can ride his own bike, but not through London traffic!

TheOriginalXENA · 31/01/2007 21:04

TheOriginalXENA · 31/01/2007 21:37

That was the name of the bike I heard on hear before but i've never been able to find one with child seats?

we had the seats made. was a good bike DH used to take the girls to nursery on it.

TheOriginalXENA · 01/02/2007 19:33

That sounds good only joking. Do you remember who made the seats (did they fit where the basket would be?)

Hurray! Other cycling mumsnetters!
We were cycling (on our tandem plus luggage trailer) in southwest London, and saw a family on a tandem plus tandem tag-along bike, plus luggage trailer. It was huge! And got given a great deal of space on the road!
Just round us there is one family with a Christiana-bike, and another with 4 year old twins who have a Chariot trailer which seems to work really well.
How about this?

sorry can't remember who made the seats but they went on the back with the kids facing backwards to scare all the traffic away!

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2007 09:04

Littlefrog, are you in London?

I do know other cycling families locally, but they tend to have just one kid. Oh, I know one dad who cycles with two kids, one on the front on a "fall, asleep, fall off and die" seat (I don't think that's the official name ), and one on the back in a normal seat. (The one on the front is a three-year-old, so it's not actually that bad. I guess.)

Oh, and there's a family? Or commune? Who have a bike with a big net thing at the back, and they just dump whatever kids and stuff they need to carry on the net. Looks funky. Don't think they use it for long distances, though.

i test drove the bikes in one of the links last summer when on hol's in amsterdam. they have a 'granny' bike which was really nice to ride and a 'mummy' bike which was nice too. far better than anything i've ever tried here. the seat and handle bars were so comfortable to use and the mummy bikes can have 2 seats on the back and 1 on the front. they ship to the uk but it was too expensive for us to ship so have decided to travel on a different airline and just bring it home on the plane next time. they are expensive but really last. the only thing i wasn't sure about though was that the most they offered was 5 gears, i don't know about where you live but round here it's pretty hilly and wasn't sure how it would cope(or more how i'd cope, lol!) obviously all bikes would be easy to ride in amsterdam!!

the prices were from 695euros for the basic 'oma'(think this is the 'granny' one) and 795euros for the 'PackMax' (think this is the 'mummy' one). it's all in dutch sorry!! these however don't come with any gears or hand breaks.

if you'd like to know anything else and i can help just shout. i have their price list here for all the accessories here.

the website is www.defietsfabriek.nl

we spoke with a girl called layla who was very helpful and told us we could order from them and she could arrange shipping.

forgot to add they had all the special child bikes in their showroom, and if you're feeling really brave you can even get an adaptor to carry your maxi cosi on the bike too!!
