Is it just me or do other people hate them? Whenever I go into my local branch, out of desperation for some toddler kit, there's always a queue a mile long consisting of pregnant women and mums with restless babies in buggies while one member of staff lackadaisically scans things through the till, while six others stand in a corner saying "so I said to him .." "did ya?" "What a twat" , ignoring tired mums needing assistance. There are clothes all over the floor that get caught up in your buggy wheels and everything's a mess. Went in yesterday and asked if they stocked Bounty packs was told yes and to come back with a voucher. I returned today, stood in aforementioned queue for 15 mins with baby kicking on my bladder and was then told by the same saleswoman as yesterday they no longer stocked Bounty packs, no she never told me they did etc. Never returning again or I will go into premature labour at the rage they induce in me. Anyway, feel better after the rant.:0

I did a skit on here once about Mothercare, will see if I can Search it

doggiesayswoof · 30/01/2007 11:40

Agree it's rubbish.
Took me long enough to realise it though, it seems compulsory to go every fortnight when you're pregnant for the first time.

oliveoil · 30/01/2007 11:41

lots moaning on here too

albertson · 30/01/2007 11:45

Hee, hee, oliveoil, your impression of staff much better than mine but spooky we both had the "did yas?" Do they clone them in a factory that also makes Big Brother contestants? Agree John Lewis far, far, far superior but sadly not within walking distance of house and they don't stock Bounty packs either

Blimey. My local branch is absolutely fine.

Biglips · 30/01/2007 11:46

mine is great

taffy101 · 30/01/2007 11:48

Mines good too - if a little under staffed

MuffinMclay · 30/01/2007 13:08

Not just you. I hate them with a passion. I went there when 8 months pg to buy a stairgate for the dog. It was a metal one, in a huge box and very heavy. I asked if someone could carry it to my car for me and they refused with 'we're not allowed to do that'. They had no working trolleys either. I bought the damn thing and struggled to the car with it because I needed it that day and couldn't face going anywhere else, but I would never go back.

franca70 · 30/01/2007 13:24

I don't like the clothes and most of the shop assistants in my branch are useless.

Indith · 30/01/2007 13:34

They suck, but at least you have a local one! Mine is now an HMV. Many city centre ones have closed and I can't really gt to one easily now. I had to do all my pre-baby shopping online as there was nowhere local that sold anything as useful as baby blankets or a nappy pail!

Lio · 30/01/2007 13:35

completely useless every time. had no muslin squares for about 4 months!

3rdTriMossTer · 30/01/2007 13:50

The St Helens one is tiny and not much choice there, but the Warrington branch is pretty well-stocked, and if you can find a shop assistant they are ultra-helpful.

I think they are just understaffed tbh. (Am only talking about our two local branches obvy can't vouch for the rest of the country!)

TravellingontheClaphamOmnibus · 30/01/2007 20:46

It is an utterly pointless shop.

They never have any stock.
The shop assistants rarely assist.
They display maternity tights at feet level and then tut when I tell them that it's a silly place to put them.
The hems came down on all the clothes I bought there.
They didn't have any summer clothes when I was pregnant during the summer. Why the hell would I want to buy winter clothes in summer? I wasn't going to be pregnant during the winter.
Oh - and the stores always look run down.

Mothercare makes me angry so now I tell all newly pregnant women to protect their blood pressure and shop elsewhere.

Grrr

VoodooBiltong · 30/01/2007 20:50

Ive always found it distinctly average for service, but lovely little girls clothes, if rather expensive.

their sales are good tho, for baby clothes IMO.

hotmama · 30/01/2007 20:58

My local one is fine. Always stock up in the sales - but even full price stuff is fine.

I've been helped to the car with stuff - even when not pregnant!

Also, found the assistants really helpful.

I personally award the biggest gold star to the online customer service staff as they came through for a bike that was out of stock so dd1 got her main Christmas present.

Before you ask I have high standards.

Perhaps I'm just lucky with my local branch.

(Though I'm a John Lewis girl at heart!)

eidsvold · 31/01/2007 05:51

our local one when we lived in the UK was fab - one in the area we used to live in was crap. So guess it is just luck of the draw.

WideWebWitch · 31/01/2007 06:59

It is indeed a shite shop, I wouldn't go there ever again. They had the UK market so sewn up for a while and got massively complacent I reckon.

slinkstar · 31/01/2007 14:16

well my local store (Hammersmith, London) Dp went in to buy something left his wallet by the till whilst one store assistance dragged him off to show him another product, he turned round and his wallet was gone- the person who was serving at the till (right next to his wallet) saw nothing!!! no ctv footage etc etc!!

then another incident, i tryed on a bra walked out of the changing room and over to the pay desk realised I'd left my bag in the changing room, ran back to get it and guess what within 2 minutes it had vanished and the only person hovering around the area was the security guard!!! she was completely disinterested about the missing bag and said there was nothing she could do.

the people that work their are thief's!

meowmix · 31/01/2007 14:23

LOATHE it. Even in Qatar its a shockingly bad shop, its like good shop assistants get taken into a room at the back to have all the service mentality thumped out of them before they're allowed near customers.

PLUS they always, without fail, put the shelves too close together for buggies.

ProfYaffle · 31/01/2007 14:29

I got to a big superstore type mothercare in Ipwsich and it's fine. Well stocked, staff very helpful and have carried stuff to my car on numerous occasions. Luck of the draw as someone else said.
