Have you got a kiddyguard stairgate?

I need a stair gate that will attach to the wall on one side and clip on to a vertical iron rail that's about 2cm wide on the other side. Can I do that with the kiddyguard one that rolls into itself? Are they a good buy generally?

Yeah I think it would work - you'd need to double check that the hooks will fit round the iron rail

had one and it was great. only, at the age of 18 months, dd1 managed to wriggle underneath the thing and venture downstairs in the pitch black

We have/had one, and hated it. The release button is really stiff, and in addition there is no way in a million years you could attach the actual fabric/gate to the wall with one hand (say you had LO in arms for example). And if you do get one, be careful not to just let it zap back onto the roller, else the tension springs might bust - like ours did!

It met a need at the time - to fit our awkward shape bottom of stairs, but would not recommend, especially at over £55 - which is what we paid. Becasue the springs have bust, we cant even pass ours on - sale or give-away!

sorry to be neg, but that was our experience! xx

now you come to mention it, the material bit got twisted quite a bit if we let it go too quickly. then you would have to unwind it fully before using it again!

too expensive!!

We had one (quite a few years ago now) becuase I didn't want a rail onthe floor at the top of the stairs. The main problem is that the mechanism is a bit unusual and friends who were visiting usually tried to force it which ended up ruining it. I wouldn't recommend it I'm afraid.

We have one for the stairs down into the cellar(now the tv room). There is no way we could have a normal gate as there are too many doors around that area and it would get rather chaotic. I think it's great - boys can operate it (9 & 7) and I can do it with one hand although not the easiest operation. No problems with material getting twisted or mechanism.

However if you want it for somewhere where a normal gate would do, I'd go for the normal one - visitors can never operate it. Mil still can't do it! We have the standard ones for the other stairs.
