as i came back from mothercare tonite with my dd and she is too big for their 2 suitable carseats as she is 2.3 yrs old, 37lbs and is just over 3 foot tall

They suggested the britax cruiser plus carseat (they didnt have any in 2nite for dd to try it out)

DS sits in a Britax supercruiser which I think was the predecessor to the cruiser plus. He is 5.5 and still fits in comfortably.

my old charge used to have one

i have one as my absolute emergance sapre

they did very badly in the which crash tests, so badly they were in a section of dangerouse car seats not to purchase cause they dont offer enough protection in a crash

personally i wouldnt by one (britax have discontined them anyway, and wont make them any more)

why not got for a britax evolva or a maxi cosi rodi (if child over 15kg) instead whch do well in the crash tests?

Biglips · 25/01/2007 22:40

we tried the britax evolva which was too small for dd and another seat that was similar but didnt try the maxi cosi rodi, is thats the same as the britax though?.....DD is over 15kg

maxi cosi rodi not the same as britax.

im sure it was the safest seat (or 2nd safest to a concord something or otehr that ive never heard of or seen in real life)

surprised she was too big for an evolva cause they go right up to 12 years... even with the back on etc

a maxi sosi rodi will also go ip to 36kg (i think)

NannyL · 25/01/2007 22:54

or a britax highliner or a britax kid do very well in crash tests and they both definitely go up to 36kg

Biglips · 26/01/2007 09:24

it was the harness that it wouldnt reach the clip...she had her thick coat on but she should need to still able to clip in the harness anyway

ill try the maxi rodi and britax highliner and kid ......

i wonder if they are in the Mothercare World? ...i will report back

many thanks NannyL x

thats ok... looking forward to hearing how you get on!

(it makes me so cross that seats that have been found to be unsafe (even if they do meet EU regs) can continue to be sold... especillay as britax havent even been making them for many many months, maybe even over a year (i loose track)

Biglips · 26/01/2007 22:06

ok ill report back soon x

We use one for older children who are basically needing a booster. My worry is that unlike in a harness where the body is restrained at 5 points, the child only has the restraint across the body with the seatbelt.

When you fasten a younger child in, unless they are sitting up very straight and central, I find it very hard to get them restrained properly. I think a younger child could slip out fairly easily with a bit of wriggling.

At that age I think I'd go for a fixed harness if you can.

Olihan · 26/01/2007 22:36

DS1 moved to a Cruiser Plus at about that age and size. We got it because we couldn't get a harnessed seat that fitted the car and was suitable for children over 15kgs. He's now in a Hi Liner which I much prefer. Have you looked at the Evolva123, also a Britax? It's harnessed but converts to a booster seat so can be used past 15kgs. If your dd is prone to escaping or fidgeting then a harnessed one would probably be better until she's older.

Biglips · 26/01/2007 22:46

Evola123 yes we tried that yestrday and its too small for dd as harness was about half an inch away from teh clip!!
