Range cookers - what's that all about then?

Trying to decide between a range style cooker and built in separate oven and hob for our new kitchen. I was of the opinion that range cookers were a bit 'country life' but they seem so ubiquitous these days I am thinking again...
So, if you've got one, why? What does it do differently? Any particular tips about design features?

i love our new range cooker and so thrilled with it.. we entertain a lot and new years dinner was heaven to cook..no more waiting around for one lot to cook then keep it warm while you do the next batch..the 5 rings on the top are well used to plus the griddle..they do fab grilled/seared meat/fish etc..its like having a bbq indoors..can you tell how much i love mine plus dh does so much more cookig as he loves it just as much so thats got to be worth it!!! if it helps we`ve bought the belling kensington dual fuel and were really happy with it a syou can guess

I have a stainless steel range and I love it great for big groups and at xmas none of that moving things around the oven.It is dual fuel gas top and fan oven with rotisserie made by stoves

Are you talking about a 'range style' cooker, or an actual range?

We have a Stanley Range which does all of our heating, hot water and cooking. It is country life here .

hello there - I've just posted on your other thread! Well, range cookers, I have two ovens (one fan, one conventional) and seven burners. It's great to have so much space, have lots of pots on the go (depends on what sort of cooking you do, I suppose) and two ovens is very useful. We often do things at different temperatures, and some things do better in the fan and some things do better in the conventional.

I'd say, if you cook/bake a fair amount, it's well worth it.

i've got a 90cm (like gold dust) stainless steel single oven. Love it, no more fannying about with trying to cram things in and rearranging shelves etc. Huge, everything goes in easy peasy and can easily be seen through the door. FAB.

I definitely mean range style rather than proper range - that's a whole different world...
I also definitely want two ovens but from my research so far, the range style ovens seem less highly specced than the built in ones - not so many functions per oven iyswim. But probably bigger.

We don't do a lot of entertaining (or at least, haven't since the kids arrived ) but we do cook something every day...
At the moment I occasionally feel a bit limited by the size of my oven, and also not having a separate grill, but on the whole don't seem to need loads of burners or loads of space...

Decisions, decisions. Anyone recommend any particular brands?

i've got a belling 110cm... love it to bits... when i go home to my mums i feel like i'm cooking on a dolls cooker... i mean 4 rings? what can you co with them?

i have 7 burners one being a wok burner...a warming zone, 2 ovens (1 fan and 1 electric) a warming oven... great for doing the proper entertaining!!!! but really to store all my baking sheets and roasting tins!...

they are really great if you really like cooking!... mine is a really lovely brushed stainless steel, so it doesn't show finger marks so easily... and is easier to make you think that it's clean which it really isn;t as it's covered in grease and splashes from the last meal all the time|!!!!... if you think you're going to get one you also need a mother like min who pops over every couple of weeks to clean it for you!!!!
