Can anyone recommend a good kitchen supplier?

We have found a builder who will make the necessary alterations and fit our proposed new kitchen but I am having trouble deciding who to buy the kitchen from. I have heard dreadful things about Magnet's customer service, anyone else found that? Just wondered if any of you lovely people out there had used a company that you were really pleased with, (or is there no such thing) . I am in South West London but dont mind travelling.
TIA

We had a Wickes kitchen fitted just before Christmas and are really pleased with the design, the quality (really sturdy units) and all the bits and pieces (pan drawers etc). On the downside, two things were missing from the original delivery, but they were very efficient and sent them by Parcelforce within two days. I'd definitely recommend them.

oh thanks bearsmom. I have never done a kitchen from scratch before and will really need a lot of handholding and the last thing I want is to have to deal with incompetent suppliers. Did Wickes have a design service or did you have someone do it. Maybe you did it yourself?

We have a kitchen from these people , who we found very good, although this was probably 8 or 9 years ago.

Jackie they have a showroom around the corner to us but I thought they would probably be mega expensive. Will go and have a look tho.

They've got a sale on atm. Ours was (is) a very small kitchen, though. I still love it, 9 years later.

Did they come around and measure up and help you design it Jackie

They didn't come round - we did the measurement of the room, and they then did the design. Can't remember if having them round to measure up too was an option, but even if it wasn't then, things might have changed by now. I think they do more styles now than they did then, too.

Our kitchen is just two straight runs so we took the measurements ourselves and then discussed with the sales consultant in Wickes exactly what we wanted to go where. They have design software which produces an ordinary plan plus a picture of each section of the final kitchen. The latter was really useful to the guys who fitted the kitchen for us. So, I guess it was half designed by us and half by Wickes. There was the option to have a Wickes consultant come out and measure up, but we didn't use it as we didn't have any corners or odd spaces to deal with.

This is my first ever kitchen "from scratch" and it's great! Everything is exactly where I need it to be and it makes life so much easier. I just love my pan and crockery drawers! (sad, I know)

John Lewis did ours. They were fabulous. Incredibly professional, helpful and informative. I would use them every time. Also, not overly expensive I thought.

Littlefish · 20/01/2007 14:48

Oh yes, John Lewis come out and measure and design for you.

weve just had an ikea kitchen and were happy with wha tweve got especially as they do the tall cupboards which wed wanted..youve got an extra shelf space in each cupboard and ive got the huge 80 wide drawers with all the inserts in them so im totally organised now ..plus i love my pull out larder!!! we have a boggish kitchen 4m40 long by 3m 30 wide and our kitchn only cost us £1200 plus fitting of £650 and of course electrics and plumbing on top of that but id say tha twas rather reasonable for a kitchen our sizeas we had quotes fo rjust replacing the doors and they were starting at £4000 !!!mad or what !
