I am currently with Tiscali but it is so slow when im trying to access emails. Which other provider is good value and would you recommend?

I can't really recommend NTL for quality, but good on price.

Have you tried Uswitch.com? They have price comparisons, customer ratings etc. Well worth a look.

We were with Tiscali and have switched to Sky. They provide a wireless connection too.
Its cheaper than Tiscali for faster access, but you only qualify for the cheap rates of you already are a Sky customer I think.
Hope things are going well with your little one!

I've been with zeninternet for ages and they are fab. probably not the cheapest around but fast, hardly ever down (2ce in 4 years?), nice on the phone if you need technical support (eg if you are installing wireless and are clueless) and generally excellent.

By contrast I have found Orange (formerly Wanadoo) to be absolutely dire, down for 5 weeks during the summer and a nightmare for customer service. Even leaving them for another supplier was protracted and a real PITA! Went with BT in the end - not the cheapest but working so far - really only went with them so that the next supplier I went to couldn't blame BT for things going wrong! grrrrrrr!! Good luck!

autumnlover · 20/01/2007 21:48

we're with BT and broadband is good if you use a cable, but we went wireless connection and cannot recommend this option. we've had to replace the equipment 3 times, the technical help is crap, always reluctant to send engineer out etc its been a nightmare and we've only been with them for just over a year. they dont communicate with each other, and definitely not their customers.

NannyL · 20/01/2007 22:02

im happy with my tiscali! would recmmend them!

HATE NTL which is at my mums house and my dads house... they hate ntl too!

sammac · 26/01/2007 17:55

Have you tried thinkbroadband.co.uk. seem to give a good overview.

zippitippitoes · 26/01/2007 17:58

well if i was changing I think I would look at Virgin

strangely I have been with Tiscali for ages and probably because of where we are it is very fast

I have been meddling and going wireless so the prospect of adding changing suppliers in to the mix was not appealing

I did think of Sky but have heard bad things

Orange looks a bargain oif you combine with mobile

zippitippitoes · 26/01/2007 18:00

about wireless perhaps (I don't know I'm experiementing)it's best to forget the supplied modem and go with whoever you like and supply your own

amidaiwish · 26/01/2007 18:06

we have pipex which seem good.
if you have SKY you can get free broadband

whichever one you get, don't get an e-mail account with them as you won't want to move as you will lose your e-mail, e.g @btinternet.com is only if you have broadband with BT etc etc.

In my experience NTL is the least maliciously incompetent broadband provider. Several of their people can tell their arse from their elbow at least 50% of the time ,and the lies about when and if an engineer will turn up are less offensively stupid than other broadband suppliers.
Although their technology is so awful it looks like it was developed by people who think that "Apples are really good computers", they generally don't fuck it up as often as the other vendors.

Cable is better than ADSL (usually), because ADSL is the sort of crap only someone who works for BT could ever think is a good idea, and by luck NTL happen not to use this, or maybe they gave up trying to make it work at all, but the bottom line is that it's less shit.
Thus I reluctantly recommend NTL.

The "free" broadband deals are rarely as good as they look. Also if you read they typically don't even deliver the service, much less try to get it to work.
