Is no-biological washing powder a waste of time and money ?

That's it really. I have read that non-bio has not been proven to be better for skin, it cannot wash as well as bio powders, the uk is one of the only countries to have a non bio market and yet we have one of the highest rates of excema in the world...

Thoughts please ?

some people are sensitive to the enzymes found in bio powder and it will produce rashes. IMO it seems to work as well as bio although maybe not at low temperatures.

I have psoriasis and bio made me itch til I could scream, but I'm aware that's anecdotal.

Best thing I've tried (got them in Christmas Stocking!!)are SoapNuts. There's lots of info about them on MN if you search.

Also Ecover washing liquid.

I don't have little children living with me though so maybe some one who does can comment/advise?

non-bio hurt the eczema baby in my house

I swap between the two.Non bio is crap for removing stains, but bio seems too harsh for ds with excema .But he does seem to be outgrowing this.

I use non-bio as both me and dp are allergic to most washing powders. The only one we can both use is fairy non-bio (tis a pain in the arse).

Only couple of times my mum used bio powders when I was younger my skin took over a month to clear up (cracked open, bleeding etc etc).

So I wouldn't use bio, but then I wouldn't use other wash powders either (IYSWIM) and I hate it when they change the formula.

MY clothes get perfectly clean though and its good if I have to boil wash (if ds has been sick or something) as I thought bio you couldn't use above 60 or something?

zubb · 16/01/2007 10:54

depends on the bio but if you are normally washing at 40C say then going to temperatures above 60C will make it a lot less effective.

100PerCentCod · 16/01/2007 10:56

ah i have just changed as it was makign my bra itchy!

no change in stain removal tbu i divide my wash and use specialist stain removers

MerlinsBeard · 16/01/2007 10:56

biological washing powder makes my eczema )sp?) prone DP itch even more so we use non bio for that reason alone.
