Q for Ikea Antilop highchair owners

frenchleave · 15/01/2007 14:20

We need a new highchair and my limited research has revealed that most people rave about this one. But it looks like its legs stick out quite a bit. Do they, or is it just the photo? Do you trip over them and end up teaching naughty words to your baby?

no they dont stick out

its quite compact actually

100PerCentCod · 15/01/2007 14:22

no its great
tiny weeny

WeaselMum · 15/01/2007 14:25

Not as big as it looks in the photo. It's a very good chair. My MIL got one for when we visit with ds - cost her about a pound secondhand. DS far happier in it than in the super duper expensive tripp trapp we have at home

kittypants · 15/01/2007 14:25

i really wanted one of these but dh spent more money on something else-hate it!

100PerCentCod · 15/01/2007 14:25

Enid · 15/01/2007 14:26

prefered the all white one

100PerCentCod · 15/01/2007 14:27

silver?
fgs thats a littel NOUVEAU

hey endi did you speak to wesite man

Cloudhopper · 15/01/2007 14:29

I think it is compact compared to most highchairs, especially the huge Graco-type ones.

It doesn't stop me tripping over it every 5 minutes though.

Enid · 15/01/2007 14:30

lol no cod

didnt want them to spot me as Enid

frenchleave · 15/01/2007 14:32

It's sounding good...

Forgot to ask though - has it got a full 5-point harness or just a lap one?

OP posts:
Cloudhopper · 15/01/2007 14:34

I think just a waist one - although you pay extra for that anyway, so you could get your own 5 point one and attach instead.

I prefer the waist one though, as long as it is tight enough. Much less messy.

AitchTwoOh · 15/01/2007 14:40

i have the one with the white legs... got it for free from my mum's pal who had it for her grandchildren. apparently her kids had tried to make her swap it for their graco one but she'd refused. for the record i've never once tripped over it and i am generally-speaking an oaf.

donnie · 15/01/2007 14:42

we love ours. easy to clean and weighs barely a thing. Plus, bnecause the legs are detachable we took it self catering to the lake district last summer with no hassle.

GET ONE!!

GooseyLoosey · 15/01/2007 14:46

Loved mine too - legs do stick out a bit, but overall its quite compact and never triped over mine either. Used it from when dd was about 6 months and because of its shape never needed a harness of any kind. Gave it to local pub when finished with it and they thin its fab too.

Cloudhopper · 15/01/2007 15:18

Felt the need to say that I am clumsy and trip over all kinds of things. Also we have a very small kitchen, so I wouldn't let that put you off.

It is also the easiest thing to clean, and let's be honest, that is the single most important factor in high chair choice for me.

Enid · 15/01/2007 15:50

have never used the harness with two children
the tray makes escaping pretty impossible

AitchTwoOh · 15/01/2007 16:31

not for my houdini dd, we have to lash her into it. but i find that she escapes less easily from the waist harness tied snugly than she does from 5-point ones that we've used in restaurants.

frenchleave · 15/01/2007 18:20

Right, that's a pretty round yes, then. Off to Ikea we will duly trot. Thank you all.

Now the question is are white legs more desirable than shiny silver ones?

OP posts:
Cloudhopper · 15/01/2007 19:17

I would say the white legs look a bit more minimalist, and in keeping with the modern style of the highchair, but I wouldn't worry too much if they only have silver ones.

poppyh · 15/01/2007 20:48

I bought the tchibo one people rave about and our DD HATED it. So freecycled it and got this one back from my mums! Also DD loves the padded blow up seat pad you can have around it. LOVE this highchair!

100PerCentCod · 16/01/2007 09:12

yes also never used harness
teh best high chair bar none

twickersmum · 16/01/2007 09:22

there were a couple of these at the house we rented over new year. i thought they were fab.
the legs do def stick out though - they are much wider than the actual seat (obviously?), we were all tripping over them.
I guess it depends where you will be placing it.

didn't use harness - not sure they would be suitable for very small children (under say 9 months) or for leaving them in for any length of time.
