Mothercare Jive Stroller...wheel fell off whilst out, only 5 months old!

Hi,

I bought a stroller for ds in September from Mothercare to replace a 22 year old maclaren stroller.
2 days ago the wheel fell off whilst I was shopping! Had to push ds home on the back wheels. I took it back today as it has 6 months guarantee.
They were helpful and are going to 'send it off to repair it'. This will take 10-12 days.
They asked if I have another pushchair to use in the meantime, I said 'yes I have my 22 yr old one!' They were going to offer me a pushchair on loan!

I suppose my question is - why can I loan one, but not get a replacement one??

Any other stories to tell out there?

i think if it breaks within 28days they will offer a replacement, but after that its repair.

if it has been past six month they mau have refused to repair it.

I am just glad it was before the 6 months. Wish I had bought another Maclaren now!

Incidently the same thing happend to me with a 15 month old (but hardly used maclaren, purchased from motehr care... about ummm 5 years now) had several long arguements with motehrcare..... and to cut long story short... after numerosue visits to motehrcare got whole purchase price for the macalren back

even with no receipt
buggy 15 months old
and purchase price new no being £320 less, i still got the full amount (£99.99)back in cash

NannyL, it's weird how a pushchair can have such a short life before a wheel can fall off isn't it!
I wouldn't mind so much if I used the pushchair constantly, but most of the time it is used for short trips to post office/shop and it lives in the back of the car!
I don't think I would recommend Mothercare strollers to anyone! I do love my old Maclaren but it is tatty and I was worried the wheels would fall off soon - have now gone back to using it, lol!

I wouldn't accept a repair personally. Use the Consumer Regulations 2000 to argue for a replacement (see the dti website). Also, a wheel falling off could have caused serious injury to your child; if Mothercare won't play ball I would threaten to report them to Trading Standards for selling unsafe goods (can't remember the exact law off the top of my head and haven't time to check for you). This item clearly was not of satisfactory quality, don't be fobbed off with a repair.

sunnydelight -
I did think that 5 months old was ridiculous for it to need a 'repair' and like I said I don't use it constantly, it lives in the car most of the time. I have no idea what my rights are on this and do think it is odd that they will 'loan' me a buggy (presumably from the shop floor?)but won't replace it!

Ds is 2 and I am trying to get him to walk short journeys now, I just wanted to replace my old buggy to see us through this summer. I never thought after 5 months it would break!

I have given it to them now. Do you think I should demand a refund?
