anyone got one; pros and cons? old shap (2005). thinking of getting one this week or next.

both husband and I over 6' and touran too expensive, zafira too small, as is piccaso renaults and japanese cars. wanted an estate but cabin space too small. run out of ideas now so thinking ford galaxy??

other suggestions welcome. budget is 16K for automatic 1.9 or more litre engine, preferably diesel.

You'd get much better value for your money with a Seat Alhambra - same as the Galaxy but with a different badge on. We had one up until about 5 years ago, and it was fabulous. We have a Touran now, which we really like, but the Alhambra was even better. Dh is 6'2" so the height was an issue for us, and there's plenty of headroom, loads of cabin space, stacks of storage space, very versatile seats.

why is it better value if its the same car?

The Alhambra is much, much cheaper to buy - for the same price as a Galaxy you'd get one with a lot more goodies. Or you'd spend a lot less for the same level of trim. The VW Sharan is basically the same car as well.

I guess the price difference is because Ford and VW are better-known makes - but they all come off the same production line.

Ive got a seat alhambra, and £16k would get you a nice one. I've got the 1.9 petrol - the diesel is very sluggish. I think galaxys are rather expensive for what you pay.

there is one problem though, across the whole range apparently. Mine failed it's MOT before christmas, because the shape of the bonnet allowed rainwater in and the suspension rails were rusted. Cost £200 to replace, and it is only 3 years old.

we have one, great for the space but costs a bomb in petrol and repairs.
