Reusable nappies

I am delighted with my Cottonbottoms nappies but am confused as to why I need to soak the nappies and then put the same "nappy soak" into the washing machine with them. Surely just the washing machine dose would do? The nappies don't smell if I just leave them "dry" in the nappy bucket.
Any thoughts...?

I just rinse mine under the cold tap, bung in the bucket, and wash when the bucket is full. Use non-bio powder, white vinegar in the conditioner box. I also stick them on a pre-wash with no powder in the relevant box, just to give them a bit more of a rinse before washing.

You don't need to soak the nappies at all! Just throw the dirty liner down the loo (if it is flushable), then the nappy into the nappy bucket. When you have a load, do a cold rinse, then wash at 40 or 60 depending on your preference.

I suspect that this is a ruse to get you to use (buy!) lots of nappy soaking stuff!

I was wondering if the soaking was to get you to buy more powder... nice that someone else has the same opinion! Thanks.
