I might be getting some, they are compltely mirrored and open from a lip underneath.

Do they get constantly dirty, do they drive you mad? Only we do up the bathroom once every 10 yrs and can't afford to buy something that'll drive us nuts and want to replace.

Help!!

i have a mirrored cabinet - i clean with glass cleaner - yes you can can see the odd smudge but i don't really mind ... if you think it may drive you mad i would think again ...

I have one and it doesn't get that dirty at all. The lip underneath means that you don't really touch the glass when you open it. We have had it for 2 years and it doesn't drive me mad at all.
But don't just take my word for it because I don't want the blame if you buy it and then hate it.
Newspaper and vinegar clean glass beautifully.

we have one, and the fact it's over the sink means that watermarks and toothpaste sploshes are more of a problem than fingermarks - I got into the habit of giving it a rub with a microfibre cloth whenever I clean my teeth so it normally looks ok though

HuwEdwards · 31/12/2006 11:38

They are worth it - they look fab.

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 31/12/2006 16:43

thanks, will stick with them!

I have one where the doors sort of fold back so you can see both sides of your head iyswim - DD loves it because she can make sure her hair is perfectly straight.
It doesn't seem to get too many smudges because you don't really have to touch the glass.
The thing that is a PITA is the mirror over the basin because for some reason DH seems to feel the need to watch himself clean his teeth & consequently sprays toothpaste all over it....

Microfibre glass cloths are fantastic for mirrors

Our bathroom cabinet has a mirrored door with a wooden frame, the glass does get terribly spattered but cleans up perfectly.

(Ordinary microfibre cloths are fantastic for cleaning sinks and baths too - you really don't need any chemicals at all although dried-on soap takes a bit more shifting.)

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 31/12/2006 18:39

where can I get a microfibre cloth?

don't know if I've seen them

All the supermarkets sell them I think, along with scourers etc, although that isn't always what they're called - they're like this - with loops for general cleaning and like this - smooth for glass, but in the supermarkets they're about £1.99 each (or for 2 if you go to Lidl)

They are unbelievably wonderful, I'm a total fan, the general purpose ones will clean anything with no chemicals and rinse clean afterwards - I love 'em!

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 31/12/2006 18:48

thanks Jan, do you use them wet and wrung out? or dry?

I use a pink glass cleaning cloth.

JanH · 31/12/2006 18:58

Wet and wrung out for cleaning, but you can also use them dry for dusting - they are as magic as a really magic thing

The wall down our stairs, covered in emulsioned lining-paper, has a dado rail which mucky-fingered children use as a banister, and it gets black - I was never able to get it properly clean with cloths or sponges before, with or without chemicals, but a quick rub with a micro-fibre cloth shifts the whole thing and no rinsing. It's excellent for cleaning paintwork too. Can't speak too highly etc etc etc!

JanH · 31/12/2006 18:59

(I think it's in the loops)

snowfun, all those regs only apply if it has a light in it, like this kind of thing, as lights near sinks have to be waterproof.

No lights, no problem!

ediemcreedie · 01/01/2007 21:04

We are delighted with our IKEA ones - the very basic ones - two frosted glass and one miror- they come with make up drawers to pull out too.

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 03/01/2007 07:51

and hooray B&Q sell e cloths!

I'm sorted, now just have to pay for it all!
