Single Pram that can do everything??????

weebers · 29/12/2006 19:43

So heres the question.....
I need a single pram/pushchair that come with a carrycot that the baby can sleep in overnight. It needs to be able to handle muddly fields and hopefully jogging too.... Potentially turn into a buggy thats useful raher then ridiculously large!! Not be too bulky! Have planned a holiday for when new baby is only 8 weeks old and figure taking a pram that he/she can sleep in at night will be a blessing!! It also means I can put all the paraphenallia underneath!! I have 2 other children 2 and 4 so really need a magic pram!!!!!! With built in bunk beds

Anybody got any ideas!!!! I can't find one suitable!!

Thanks in advance

fixed wheel mb terrain with carrycot.

misdee · 29/12/2006 19:45

mb-mountain buggy

foxtrot · 29/12/2006 19:48

a Jane Matrix travel system, which is lie-flat and a car seat, several chassis to choose from

weebers · 29/12/2006 19:50

Do you all own the pushchairs you recommend? Sorry to be so demanding. You'd think after having 2 babies I might have some idea now about what I am doing.... But sadly no!!! Are both ok for jogging with??

And are the carry cots suitable for all night sleeping?

OP posts:
misdee · 29/12/2006 19:55

i have the urban version, i dont job but copes with running after dd2 lol. not sure if the carrycot is suitable for all night usage, wil lhave a check for you.

foxtrot · 29/12/2006 19:57

But i have the jane. They all slept in the matrix bit when they were tiny, for daytime naps and occaisonal overnight, but i would ignore its claims to be a lie-flat car seat TBH - i could never fix it to the seatbeslts to my satidsfaction. Fine in the upright position but quite large.

Have never jogged with my chassis (it's 5 years old now), but they do a 3 wheel one now slalom pro but i don't know what thats like.

foxtrot · 29/12/2006 19:58

There is a jane carry cot attachment as well - it's all a bit confusing!!

CantSleepWithSanta · 29/12/2006 20:01

You will need to buy a suitable mattress to go in a carrycot if you want to use it for overnight - the basic ones they come with are not appropriate.

MB will be perfect for muddy fields and jogging, but it is bulky. tbh, you won't find one that meets all of your criteria and isn't bulky. MB is very easy to fold up/down though.

weebers · 29/12/2006 20:22

What about a bugaboo??

Alternatively...... How about just getting a pram? I have since I last posted looked onto this and it seems almost imposible to buy just a pram that can be used as an overnight sleeper too! I found the old fashioned silver cross, but they're £700 and that's ridiculous!!! Anoy other ideas? Thanks for all your help!!

i have an old fashioned silver cross coach built pram. cost me £13. not taken it out yet, only picked it up from the junk yard the other day, been scrubbing it.

weebers · 29/12/2006 20:43

That's brilliant. Well done you! I may well have to keep my eyes peeled!

Micralite newborn+ comes with a carrycot with a vented matress for overnight sleeping. Then turns into a buggy.

We have the Jane Matrix lie-flat carseat and Powertrack. I really liked the matrix as a carrycot and did use it overnight/naps from the first week, in between co-sleeping. Having said that overnight for my ds was about 4 hours at a stretch.
We did use it as a lie-flat in the car and it worked out well as we had quite a long drive to Dp's parent's. We could get DS out without waking him. It took up two rear seatbelts and accomodated out little DS up until he was 9 months and around 18lbs, then we put it into the upright position for another five months.
It was a bit bulky and we had to put it in the front seat, having said that DS loved it and never cried when we put him in. Now he has a rear passenger seat chair, he does wail sometimes.
The Powertrack can be used from birth as it has a lie-flat option, which we didn't try, but we did change to the pushchair when DS was around 4 or 5 months and the recline was pretty good, he slept in there comfortably quite often. It's a big pushchair which I can see lasting him until he's four or something.
I have jogged with the wheel in fixed position and it worked well, wouldn't recommend using the swivel wheel for this though.
We still use the powertrack pram at 25 months and have no other pram - it is great for all but the pokiest of corner shops. I think it is pretty light for the size, but the frame is big and we have to take off one wheel before it will fit into the boot of our Almera. It's easy to take off though and you can do it when it's semi-into the boot IYSWIM.
I think I would upgrade to the slalom next time as some of the fittings on the powertrack are pretty fiddly and I think they have been fixed on the Slalom - notably the pram chassis/matrix fixing. And the collapsing is easier, which takes practice on the Powertrack.
Oh and the handbrake can start to make an annoying rattling noise on the powertrack.

katierocket · 01/01/2007 17:53

single nipper 360

katierocket · 01/01/2007 17:55

here

very light, easy to fold, smaller than MB, suitable from birth

MrsBadger · 01/01/2007 17:55

Unfortunately both the Mountain Buggy carrycot and the Matrix are marked 'unsuitable for overnight sleeping'.

The Silver Cross Sleepover is meant to be good but would be no good for jogging, though the Classic chassis would be fine on fields.
The Bebe Confort Windoo is a pretty neat carrycot and the High Trek or the Trophy Air 4 chassis would handle mud and probably jogging.
The M&P Ultima and MyPod carrycots are good too but none of the chassis they fit on are sturdy enough for you...

notnigella · 01/01/2007 18:15

would recommend the jane matrix carrycot / lie-flat car seat and the slalom pro-chassis. my ds used the lie-down car seat for 9 months, was great as never had to wake him when moving from car to pram and vice versa. He then used the seat in the upright position for a couple of months. We did use the matrix for a few overnights, and it was great for taking ds round to friends for supper etc, but like all carry cots this is not officially recommended. Great for jogging, have been using it for powerpramming in the parks and never had a problem. Many of my friends have bugaboos and they are great for urban pavements but useless on any other terrain.

maisiemog · 01/01/2007 22:50

Ooooo'er! I used to let my Ds sleep in his Matrix all the time. He didn't like the cot - too big, but was quite happy in the Matrix.
I suppose it hasn't got the foam mattress with the holes in like a cot though.
What about an old fashioned pram with a carry cot top and a proper mattress which turns into a pushchair? Mind you I wouldn't fancy jogging with one, you would ping everyone else off the pavement - probably wouldn't be able to see them over the hood. (laughing at own joke - ridiculous)
Or a pram like a slalom/mb/bugaboo plus a moses basket or one of those baby hammocks/cradles?
I'll stop now (get my coat)

Thanks ever so much for all your advice ladies.. I am still confusded and unable to make any decisions.....

The problem all stems from the fact that we have booked a summer holiday. 10 days in France. We are flying there. However, the baby mark 3 is due the end of May so theoretically will only be 8 weeks old when we fly.

I didn't want to have the hassle of travel cot, pushchair, and a million other bits so just thought a pram would be easier and then I could store all the rest of the bumf underneath. Having one that could be used as an overnight sleeper meant no need to take a cot! However, I would only really be needing it as a pram for the holiday.

Basically, what I am trying to say. Is .... Any advice!!!!!!! Anyone travelled with an 8 weeks old and a 3 and 4 year old. On a plane!

I am frigthened already!!!! Its not the labour but the holiday.....

I haven't done it myself, but I think it is the IDEAL time to take a bub away with you. At least they sleep a lot at that age and you can feed them yourself without lugging lots on board and having all your stuff checked by the security.
Plus they are quite easily amused compared with a horrible toddler, getting bored and charging around annoying everyone.
What are the baby/child facilities when you get there? Do they have cots and suchlike?
There is a pop up travel sleeper by Samsonite that might be good for you, I looked at stuff like this ages ago, because DP's folks live a bit away from us and we thought we would need a bed (ended up leaving him in his matrix ) but he didn't sleep for long at that age.
You could always take a sling with you for wandering around and swap with your other half when you get tired. I used a wrap sling for ages when DS was little, easier for the bus etc..., he used to sleep in it in the front carry, snooooore!
Someone else might be able to suggest a good lightweight, lie-flat pushchair for you to take over.
Don't be frightened.

Hi there,
How about the redcastle shop n jog? It does very well in reviews as an all terrain stroller, but you can attach a carry cot to it too.
They are a french make but you can buy them in the UK (or save youself some money and pre-order one the pick it up in France!- just carry the baby in a slnig till u get there!).
Wouldn't classify it as small or lightweight (41x 61 x 81 cm's folded and 11 kg) but then again, not sure any of the jogger strollers are really- and not sure a lightweight Mclaren type would do the whole muddy lane thing....

\link{http://www.redcastle.fr/index02.php\website here

the Jane the micralite and the bebe confort carrycots are all described as for being for overnight sleeping. Not sure about the redcastle the website doesn't say, but you might be able to find out from UK stockist. Even if it isn't by buying a seperate ventilated moses basket/pram mattress from mothercare you will be able to sleep bubs in it.

maisiemog · 03/01/2007 15:43

I forgot that there is an auto carry cot option with the slalom, which has a ventilated mattress and can be used in the car as a car seat. It doesn't look as nice as the Matrix, but it would probably last as a carrycot for longer, as it is a bit bigger.

thehairybabysmum · 03/01/2007 15:57

Chicco Trio, fab! Carrycot (and carseat) clicks onto buggy, buggy is lightweight and umbrella fold, we took it to US when DS 3 months...Im the only one of my baby friends who hasn't subsequently had to go out and buy a maclaren type stroller as original too big. My friend has a Jane and complains that it is v. bulky

Buggy seat lies flat also so for your actual flight you could check in the carrycot and use thte buggy at the airport.

I used mine for DS to sleep in overnight when visiting rellys. You can use carrycot int eh car too as there are straps etc for fixing to belts but it isnt as safe as a proper car seat.

As an added bonus not everyone and his dog has one.

An extra thought, have you seen the samsonite pop up travel cots...i had one and was great for when DS small as folds up v. small, i also used this lots when away, was fine until he was about 7 months old, if you used one of these maybe you could get away without a pram bit at all.

Have you travelled with your others when babies?? I would say 8 week old likely to sleep most of flight as for older ones im afraid i have no idea as my DS only 1 but it will only be a shortish flight and maybe the novelty factor will help??

If you live near York you could borrow my pop up cot as im not using it at the mo.

katzg · 03/01/2007 16:00

i have a mamas and papas 2 in 1 pram which will do all of your list except the overnight sleeping but for this i bought a pop-up travel cot which was fab, and just to be extra cheeky i am about to sell both!!!
