Pushchairs that say suitable from birth but don't lie completely flat?

I had one with my first child but it was bought in ignorance just following the manufacturers description. I panicked when the midwife at the antenatal course said they had to be completely flat for the first 3 months because of their lung development. When I questioned her she said it was ok if they weren't in there for more than 2 hours and my son never went that long without feeding.

Am due another baby soon and can't really afford an expensive pram type pushchair, also have a bad back and will have to have a c-section so don't want anything heavy.

All the cheaper reclining forward facing pushchairs (m&P aria etc) all seem to be at a 25-30 degree angle. Obviously I don't want to compromise the babies safety but don't want to go into debt or kill my back either.

Also bouncy chairs are at the same angle too and slings are upright. Am confused, any thoughts appreciated!

i would like to see what others say as i want one like that.

Are you thinking of a sling, or a baby bjorn thingy? Have you had a look on ebay for a cheap pram?

misdee · 29/12/2006 11:34

whats your budget?

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 29/12/2006 11:35

Oh, and have you tested out that M & P pushchair? I have a pram/pushchair set, and when I changed to the pushchair, it reclined all the way back like a pram... doesn't show it in the pictures though.

I mean my son is fine but am feel odd about knowingly going against advice. God I thought I would be more laid back about my second baby!

pliko mods are half price and lay flat.

alex8 · 29/12/2006 11:43

Am getting a sling too (I was leant a baby bjorn one last time that killed my back , I had a huge baby, but getting a wrap one this time which will hopefully be better)

Have seen the M & P Aria and its at at 30 degree angle. I think the £200-£400 ones do lie flat but are much heavier as well. I didn't really want to spend much more than £100.

Apart from the cost of xmas have a home insurance bill, boiler servicing bill, had my phone stolen and crap bike shop who sold us wrong bike for my son won't exchange it. Also found out am not entitled to maternity pay and my freelance work is running out after the baby will be born. I just seem to be haemorrhaging money at the moment!

does it go fully flat?

misdee · 29/12/2006 11:51

al;most flat. less recline than any others that say from birth.

TheBlonde · 29/12/2006 12:06

Have you looked at the Maclaren techno? We had that and it goes pretty flat
They are all discounted now on Mothercare and probably on Kiddicare too

charliecat · 29/12/2006 12:16

Remember that the baby has been upside down squished in your belly for 9 months before it needs to be perfectly flat

anniebear · 29/12/2006 13:13

and they are not at all flat in a car seat!! far from it!

justaphase · 29/12/2006 13:43

I used the Micralite - I got the buggy + carrycot + car seat + cosy toes + raincover all in for £350. Did not need to buy a separate moses basket as used the carrycot at night.

Still consider this my best baby purchase.

peachygirl · 29/12/2006 17:18

I'm currently looking at the silver cross 3D but am a bit worried as it is a very tight fit into my boot. The ventura car seat does not fit my car either.
This does lie flat in the pram and pushchair mode, quite expensive compared to the mod £249 for pram /£199 for pushchair on kiddiecare.
I've also been today looking at the loola and the mothercare atlan Starting to panic a bit as only have 8 weeks to go and have no buggy yet

ballbaby · 29/12/2006 17:23

Will you be using the pram/pushchair for most of your baby's daytime sleep? If you have a moses basket or mat where he can lie safely most of the time I can't see why a little time slightly upright in a pushchair would matter. What about babies that are carried in slings most of the time?
I bought a double buggy which ds2 went in almost from birth for all his walks and he is fine.

alex8 · 29/12/2006 19:20

thanks for all that. I think am being infected by third trimester madness. Will mull it all over and the weekend whilst shopping round.
