Found a second hand one at a good price with a dealer. Seems to tick the boxes and the reviews seem good but any advice from those of you who have/had one?

Thanks!

Interest piqued :)
I don't do many miles these days as life got a lot more local.

Dealer has messaged - going to ring tomorrow and see on sunday. Fingers crossed :)

we have the estate, coming up for 5 now but DH says he is never ever getting rid of it - nicest car he's ever driven he says.

We have the 1.6l mpi engine and it can go like stink but also can guzzle the petrol at high speeds. We don't do a lot of mileage though and most of it is fairly local but it is nice to have the power available. DH treats himself to a drive about in it every so often just for the enjoyment......in a Skoda estate :o It does have big alloys and sports suspension. It cost us under 11k new as they were selling off the cars with the older engines. It has a fair bit of toys too (sat nav, air con, maxi dot computer etc) We looked up the equivalent VW/Audi at the time and it was between £10k and £17k more! Shock

Thanks guys :)

I saw the car, loved it and subject to finance tomorrow, I will have it :D

DH has an Octavia estate, which he loves.

VAG actually stands for Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, which is the German way of saying a Plc.

WMittens · 02/02/2016 09:06

VW own Audi, Skoda, Seat and, I think, Porshe.

As well as Lamborghini and Ducati.

I have the 2 litre vRS which has the Audi TT engine in it.

The EA888 has been used in loads of VAG models; its most impressive (standard) incarnation so far is in the Golf R, 70-odd hp more than the TT and the vRS.

Octavia takes some getting used to but its practical and honestly great to drive.

I've heard that at around 70mph, a lot of people are averaging 60-65mpg. Also with the road tax at £30, running costs are pretty good.

Don't forget they also on Bugatti and Bentley

Cracking cars. So good can't get any good deals on them. In fact my boss ended up with an Audi A6 instead of a superb as the leasing offer meant A6 was cheaper.

I really do have to jump in there, sorry. I'm afraid your 1.6mpi doesn't go like stink, in fact most reviews suggest it's underpowered! As for your DH I can only assume he is some kind of masochist! There's not much driving pleasure to be had from this slug. 102PS pulling all that weight around must be glacial, I suggest you try a vRS.

As for the OP, the Octavia will be fine, like most VAG products it will be pretty average in just about every respect (that's not a bad thing). It's the motoring equivalent of white goods, a tool for the job that will be reasonably reliable and reasonably cheap to run.
