if well designed they can make fabulous use of space, esp in awkward shaped rooms

...but they can look abominable. Tread careully when it comes to door designs.

Oh I'd like to know this too!

THere were some real minging ones in our previous house which probably even affected the sale price.

Is it possible to get nice ones that don't need a remortgage?

LIZS · 21/12/2006 18:05

Depends on the room but generally if nicely done I'd say yes, they are better. Assuming our move goes ahead we'll have 2 alcoves (grandly termed a dressing area lol) into which we can put 2 Ikea ones we already have or build in long term which would certainly look neater, but then again who really sees it apart from you. We currently have , slightly naff, build in cupboards and they hold loads of stuff but are pretty untidy so I recommend some sort of drawer/shelf/rack system.

Best to get a carpenter to tailor make them and its not expensive as it sounds. They can look v modern and chic done well If teh rooms are big and can take it freestanding looks fab too but is more expensive if you want something decent

we are currently having some built into our awkward sized room and , so far, they look lovely. I don't really like the ones you can get from MFI or places as I think they look a bit dated some of them
