Gas Heating Annual Cover - which company do you use/any recommendations????

Sorry this is so very dull BUT ... I've been with British Gas for around 7 years now for what they now call Homecare 200 (ie. Central Heating Care). They do an annual inspection/service and we're supposed to then be insured for the year if our heating system breaks down. Anyway, today I got their new quote for the year and it's about £40-£50 up on last year - I nearly fell off my chair!

What I wanted to know is whether anyone has anyone uses any other company for this service that they are happy with and can recommend because I would dearly love to phone British Gas and tell them where to stuff their quote

Thanks in advance for anyone still awake and able to help!

We get ours through Domestic and General for about £180 (we think, but neither of us can remember exactly). They sub-contract out to local firms.

DP reckons if you contact your boiler manufacturer (eg. Vailant, Baxi) they sometimes have their own cover you can take out and their own engineers or will recommend someone.

Thanks BettySpaghetti. Ours was about that last year, this year it's £242 ... ahhhhhhh! I think that sometimes these companies take the piss because they know how lazy quite a lot of the general public are and presume that we won't change. What's really galling is that if you join up with British Gas then, as a newbie, you get a quote that's around £5-£6 a month cheaper! It's almost worth switching service providers annually.

If anyone else has any recommendations, I'd be very interested to know them too.

Thank you.
