Question about tricyles and bikes

Hi all,
I'm trying to make a decision about the best type of bike/trike to get for my 25 month old.
He's got some ride-on things, and seems to have pretty good balance. By good balance I mean the ability to do a standing balance on his Wheelybug??
So I thought he might like something a bit more practical for going outside.
It's going to be a present from his grandparents and we have been debating which type to get.
Not sure whether to go for a tricycle like the ELC one, with the parental stick and free wheel option for the pedals.
OR I have been looking at the 'brighter bike' on Mulberry bush toys, which similar to 'like a bike' but cheaper. It is basically a wooden bike with no pedals and the theory goes - child learns to balance and goes straight onto bike with no stabilisers.
Thing is the age range is 2.5 to 5 for the brighter bike, so he wouldn't be able to use it for a while.
So do we go with the tricycle which could be used immediately or the brighter bike, which will probably be for the Summer??
He is quite happy walking along with his dolly pushchair for now.

Mothercare do a little bicycle with stabilisers and a locking front wheel mechanism and a parent handle - got DS one for Xmas and he is 25 months (yesterday actually) - the bike is a little version of a big boys bike - not a trike and we thought he would like that and with the handle it would be practical. Just got to get him to wear the hat now!!!
