It has well and truly died, rust all over the floor underneath and at the back and when I took the lid off the bit at the back is in two pieces . How it did my last few loads I have no idea.
It has done quite well lasting 6 years but 3 of those were in Cyprus with awful water.
So, I have gone through some old threads to see any recommendations and like the sound of the Miele and Bosch. The Miele comes highly recommended but is more expensive and only has a 5 kg drum and the door doesn't open 180 degrees.....
So what do you say? Is the Miele really worth the extra?
My current machine is a Zanussi and although it has done us well I am ready for something new .
What timing though , I hope I can get delivery before Christmas

get a miele. They are more expensive but come with a great warranty (mine free 10 years)...because you will never need to use it!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/12/2006 20:01

Skyler - mine packed up 10 days ago. Couldn't get a new one delivered until Monday coming, although that was partly because it's integrated and the usual places don't keep much stock.

I've had an AEG, would have loved Miele but couldn't afford one.

Skyler · 16/12/2006 20:10

Bugger 10 days!!!
I have found one in stock with Dixons and have free delivery and £25 off here
I think that is a good deal....
Long shot but does anyone have this model??

Anyone any more advice? Thanks

Are you bothered about having a time delay indicator? If not this Bosch from Comet is only £300 - I have had 2 Bosch machines in the last 10 years or so and they are fantastic - Miele may last longer, but technological developments mean a new one (after a few years) is almost always better, quicker, quieter and cheaper to run.

There has been another washer thread fairly recently, will see if I can find it as there were lots of good links on there.

Skyler · 16/12/2006 22:23

Thanks Jan. That Bosch looks good apart from the fact I do like the time remaining display on my old washing machine... Not sure it is worth an extra £150 though lol.

Bosch with time remaining indicator at John Lewis for £380?

Bosch are fab, honest

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 17/12/2006 00:08

We have gone through 3 washing machines in 9 years and when the last one packed up we got a Miele. We also got the free 10 years warranty and have had no problems so far.

themoon66 · 17/12/2006 00:19

For God's Sake... do NOT buy a hotpoint! Am limping through with one myself now... wish i'd never bought it. It costs me a tenner every time I do a towel wash coz the fins inside the drum break off and i have to get new ones.

baubleloo · 17/12/2006 08:48

Hi Skyler,

Strangely enough we had a Hotpoint for 15 years which recently packed up,so I bought another Hotpoint and actually love it...so far.It has a 6kg drum and a time indicator which is really useful.

TheBlonde · 17/12/2006 09:11

We have a Bosch, AEG is the same brand

JohnLewis own ones have got good reviews
Miele considered outstanding but was too pricey for us

Warning though - we had to wait over 6 weeks for ours so check delivery times are correct

TheBlonde · 17/12/2006 09:11

oops not AEG
Bosch = Neff

Skyler · 17/12/2006 13:07

Thank you ladies. I think it is going to be a case of finding one that can be delivered before Christmas!
DD1 had a party this morning and so I conducted some more consumer research amongst my friendly Mums there. Conclusion was Zanussi OK, Hotpoint not....Hmmm.
I think if we can stretch to it the Miele is a good option for the long term..., But JanH, that Bosch seems a good one too. Lots of extras/options.
I think I will have to go shopping .

Skyler · 17/12/2006 13:14

Ah John Lewis can't deliver till after Christmas!
I am not sure I can bear to go shopping on a weekend this close to Christmas. I might just bite the bullet and get the Miele at Dixons with free delivery and £25 off. It is in stock....
I will keep searching though. Thanks again for your help and advice, esp JanH doing me links too

Skyler - I've had mine through Boots online - strange I know but they had double points and free delivery. It was the only place I could find to get me an integrated machine this side of Christmas. Can't wait to get all the bedding washed - beginning to fell right skanky!

cece · 17/12/2006 14:37

O bought a Bosch one recently from kitchenscience.co.uk . They were very good on delivery and reasonable prices.

rhubarbcat · 17/12/2006 15:35

I used these guys for my new Hotpoint machine.

www.redhillappliances.co.uk/ContactUs.aspx

£1 delivery, and they will take your old one as well. I ordered on a Saturday and it came on Thursday. Cheaper than Dizons by £50 for the model I got as well.

Skyler · 18/12/2006 13:58

Thanks very much. I bit the bullet and went for the Miele at Dixons, swayed HUGELY by the fact I could have it by Thursday and that it meant not actually going shopping anywhere
I have already rung to double check on its progress and it has been despatched so I do feel relieved.

Mines arrived Syler. The manual is an inch thick and is my reading matter for this evening. I tell you what is a pain - this one is cold fill only and it takes forever to do a wash!!

MrsSpoon · 18/12/2006 19:05

Hope you enjoy (?!??!?!) your new machine Skyler. I clicked on this thread to recommend Miele. Our's is almost 8 years old and so far haven't had a single problem with it.

Skyler · 19/12/2006 11:00

Hope you enjoyed your reading material Saggar.
Glad you are happy with your Miele too Mrs Spoon. That is reassuring. I can't wait now as since the old machine died dd1 had a rare wet bed and now has a sickness bug so lots of extra washing. Typical hey. Thankfully my lovely friend let me wash all her wet bedding at hers, and I am hoping she is in today to do some of the pukey stuff. We have rinsed it all in the bath but......

OP posts:
Skyler · 19/12/2006 11:02

Oh and cold fill seems to be the norm nowadays doesn't it, and you are right that it means the wash takes forever. That is why the time left counter was important to me.

Skylertnightholynight · 21/12/2006 19:44

My Miele is here! It is great so far, three loads in.
Thanks for your help and advice ladies. I am really chuffed.
